  1. I think once you acknowledge a genre in your own lyric, you limit that lyric in what you're actually trying to say. I write to write, how it comes out is how it was meant to come out. When I write in the mind frame of a certain genre I feel as though I can't really express what I'm trying to say. I agree that there are general rules of thumb as far as lyrical content when exploring different genres, but I've never been one to lump my own lyrics in a certain genre as I write a lot of times to silence.

Totally agree with you on that Allan, there is no magic formula.. if there was, it would get really boring really fast..
  3. Most definitely... vocal trance lyrics are very hypnotic
  4. "X" marks the spot maybe??? eh?? eh??
  5. I don't really put my lyrics to music until I sit down with a band and get a feel for how they want to play the song. I'm fine with going with whatever flow flows naturally and a lot of times it's all about just finding that common ground. I wouldn't say lyricists don't experiment (lord knows I do some really weird shit to come up with some sort of "new song formula") but it can be a little harder (for me anyway) to experiment with lyrics as opposed to experiment with guitar
  6. I suppose you're right... at that point the last thing on my mind is writing a song [smiley=beerchug.gif]

  9. Alright so we've all hit it... probably multiple times. The dreaded writer's block. What are some things you guys do to help yours? I pretty much just drop everything related to music (and yes it's as hard as it sounds.. I see music wherever I go) and try to enjoy something that I enjoyed before I started playing guitar (i.e. lift weights, play catch with a friend, go for a drive *without music*, for a walk around the block, etc..). What about you guys?

  15. I've started venturing down this road with the crappy USB mic that I have and my PC. The only problem I run in to is I've never actually sang my songs in bands prior, because I tend to concetrate on the guitar.. I don't know if this is typical for a musician (writing lyrics and playing the guitar but not singing?..) but it seems to be the "hurdle" I'm facing at the moment. Sounds childish, and it is, but I've always been afraid of people hearing me sing
  16. Well probably because I don't have a band with me... just my thoughts, pen and paper, and an acoustic guitar [smiley=acoustic.gif]

  19. I have a hard time finishing songs because I tend to lose my rhythm that I had first started with... Which brings me to my question; what do you guys usually write your music to? A backing track? A metronome? The sounds of silence? lol..
