  1. Hi all Thought I’d start a topic on music quotes: Plato ”Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything”
  2. Time to close Richard’s old topic as he never drops by any longer and start a new topic on the same subject?
  3. Hi shecklhj, welcome to Songstuff! I look forward to hearing your songs. What sort of role or roles are you working in as a pianist? Do you focus on specific genres?
  4. It’s a shame. A lot depends on local venue and promoters. There might be a local songwriter circle meet, but the trouble is you largely play for each other…. The audience is small. Local venues prepared to give decent stage time to chosen singer-songwriters can make a world of difference. I say “chosen” because there needs to be some selection, to only put on stage objectively good artists. “Good” attracts listeners. “Bad” scares them away.
  5. Sounding good Alo! First track I’ve heard from you for quite a while. The best changes seemed out of place. I get something fresh was needed. I just don’t know why you chose the beats and transitions you did. Otherwise, enjoyable with a great flow.
  6. You wouldn’t be the first poet to start writing lyrics here. Do you also do your own music or would you be hoping to find a collaborator?
  7. Hey Towerume Welcome to Songstuff! I look forward to hearing your tracks. Cheers John
  8. Hey After the howling success of New Music Friday #27 it’s……… New Music Friday #28 Post up your current music projects. Anything from whistling a tune, a 1+1, beat boxing, through to a full arrangement and production. Be as experimental as you want. I’ll hope to post up another of my 1 take songs I recorded on my phone a little later. Post up your tracks! Cheers John
  9. liking the backing track. Have you thought on a name for your song?
  10. oh and good job on the vid. Looked like you had fun making it.
  11. Absolutely. When it comes to editing, it is very similar to using a DAW.
  12. Hey Gang I thought it would be nice to have a topic for text based music humour. Some jokes only work for specific subjects. Others, you could change the subject and the joke would still work just the same. To get things rolling… I bought a “Get better soon” card for a musical friend. I should say, she isn’t sick, but I really wish she would just get better…
  13. Hey Tony, Welcome to Songstuff! Are you interested in specific genres or just enjoy whatever comes to mind? Cheers John
  14. I would avoid boosting posts. As paid Facebook advertising goes it is by far the least effective, mainly because it is the least accurate or flexible audience targeting. I can see paying on fiverr gives you a measurable on plays of videos… how do you know talk radio plays are effective? Going past raw first stage results like paid promotion generates plays, do you follow it to “this promotion generated a purchase/download” etc? Quite wise regarding Spotify though it comes down to reputation of the service. Promotion by reputable companies can be effective. In many ways better promotion to Spotify playlist curators and music bloggers on Facebook. Get your music in front of them can result in a much larger reach and high conversion as the audience tends to be more on-target.
  15. Hey there TDM, good to have you with us. Looking forward to hearing some of your tunes!
  16. Sounding interesting so far. Do you have an idea of where take it?
  17. Hey Gang Thought I'd get the ball rolling on music humour on video with "More Cowbell" from SNL
  18. On a bright note you are creative
  19. awww. Tell you what, we'd accept a drawing
  20. As promised, here is Alba… The First verse is different than the recording, and the vocal timing of the first line of the second verse is corrected. The words below are the same as the recording Alba Breathing deep I taste the air In my heart I’m always here I know I’ll come home again I’ll come home again Stirring feelings I keep deep down inside Absence grows them stronger, I know I’ll come home again I’ll come home again I can’t forget you You’re in my soul You travel with me, my home Alba Breathing deep I taste the air In my heart I’m always here I know I’ll come home again I’ll come home again Close my eyes and count to 10 A moment passes slowly, I know I’ll come home again I’ll come home again I can’t forget you You’re in my soul You travel with me, my home Alba
  21. Actually…. It isn’t. This announcement is 2 years old. We recently split the independent music stage off into it’s own site, independentmusicstage.com, and will be opening song submissions very, very soon. We are building complimentary social media for promotion but submission will be through the website
  22. Hey Gang Most indies don’t do much post-analysis but it is definitely something that I would encourage. So, a few quick questions: Which song would you say is your most successful song (by whatever measurement you choose). Why that song? What things made the difference… in your opinion, but even better if you have stats that support it. Is there anything more you could realistically have done? Please post a link to the song! Cheers John
  23. Hey Gang When it comes to making videos for their music, what do you do? Do you make your own? Use animation software? Turn photos to slides? Create a live action video? Create a lyric video? Can you post a link to one of your videos? Cheers John
  24. Yeah they do that when they like you. Our cat Molly, now sadly shuffled to the big kitty-nibble feast in the sky, visited us one day and stayed for a decade. A magic Burmese. What’s your cat’s name?
