  1. I am very busy promoting Testament these days, doing all those things I really don't enjoy so much - like writing my own bio, sending mails everywhere to try to get my album reviewed, distributed, played on radio and so on. It's hard work, I'm telling ya! When I finally get in touch with people it is always very nice, and most people seem to be very interested in my latest album. So far it is looking pretty good, Progrock.no, Progress Records, Record Heaven and CD Baby now stocks (or will stock very soon) my album. You can also buy it in lossless formats from my webshop - which soon also will include even more lossless formats and special-edition single tracks which you won't get anywhere else. After being done with my album I have also upgraded my DAW to Windows 7 and Cubase 5. I am playing around with it jotting down some new ideas, and it looks pretty nice. I am now also trying to get a band on the road to do some of my music, so if you know a bassist or keyboardist - let me know. That's all from me for now - you'll be hearing from me again. Source
  2. There's only one way, I'm afraid. Don't use it at all. If it lingers, contact the doctor - there might be a serious problem.
  3. Finished an album!

  4. Finally Testament is available for purchase (downloadable mp3/flac) or pre-order (CD). I expect have the CDs in hand this week, and then I will be very busy starting on the promotion - getting this CD out. Hopefully there will be some concerts next year too; I will come back to you on that. So - just a quick note telling you this, now I need to get back to promo-work again. Source
  5. A couple of weeks ago I was in Strype Audios mastering studio together with Tom Kvålsvoll to put the last hand on Testament. As you may know the whole album is one piece where the songs either fade over in each-other or is separated by other effects. It turns out he was the absolute right guy to master it, and after some re-work on the fade-overs to get it just right, I got the final master last Wednesday. I am now only waiting on the cover art, before sending it to the printers. Then I will start working on these web-pages which are way overdue some rework. You can be sure I'll let you know when Testament is ready for purchase ... Source
  6. I was around 35 when I found a good control of my voice. I'm sure more rehearsals would have helped me reach it sooner - it was systematic scale rehearsals that helped me. Boring stuff: scales 3 times a week.
  7. You can do scale rehearsals and gradually push your voice up the odd note or two - don't expect miracles like an octave, but you should be able to add a couple of notes. Be careful not to overdo it and ruin your voice. 40 minutes a day 3 times a week is enough.
  8. 1: better firewire/usb soundcard (external) 2: 2 more gigs of ram 3: A couple of active reference monitors 4: A a proper large membrane mic (allthough many use a shure sm57 for most everything) 5: UAD card + plugins For your music application I would get as noiseless videocard as possible - i.e. something crappy. Allways connect directly to the soundcard when recording - it will save you the added background noise of the mixer. Most home studios these days don't even need a mixer (allthough I use one for monitoring purposes). These are my opinions only, of course ...
  9. So - since January, I have been recording the final bits & pieces while learning to mix while mixing the album. Now it is really getting there! I also did a re-recording of several tracks - the curse of perfection! Now I am looking at sending this to mastering sometime during October - all though I have stopped making promises to anyone ... You probably also have noticed that I am a pretty rotten blogger - there I will have to improve now that that I am entering the phase of marketing Testament. Well - that's all for now, I need to get back to mixing. Source
  10. Tonight, Tonight, Tonight - Genesis (Invisible Touch)
  11. Alien Afternoon - Genesis (Calling All Stations)
  12. I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe) - Genesis (Selling England by the Pound)
  13. Way of the World - Genesis (We Can't Dance) For new viewers: http://forums.songstuff.com/topic/11267-a-genesis-analysis/page__p__83226__fromsearch__1&#entry83226@ Everyone should have goals in life!
  14. try +2.5db at 2khz and +2.5 db at 12khz - boost a bit at 200-300 hz as well - cutoff at 150 2khz for clarity (most speech information lies here) 12khz for air. 200-300hz for body If you can get your hands on a LA2A compressor plugin and a pultec eq plugin, you will find it almost magically brings some color and presence to the vocals.
  15. Must be Chris Squire (Yes) "The Fish" - he's got a very characteristic bass sound and this song is mainly built up of bass structures.
  16. I believe it is in the publishers rights to dictate the terms of the adaptation - so it is really down to whether you believe this will benefit the royalties of your album as whole. Also remember that you nevertheless are entitled to the revenue of the mechanical rights. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royalties#Mechanical_royalties My gut feeling is that you should accept.
  17. Cuckoo Cocoon - Genesis (The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway)

What you put in the mouth also matters a lot. Never drink milk or anything with milk in it before you sing. Also - ease up on the coffee ... When singing I only drink water.
  19. Some freebies here you could try first: http://www.wavosaur.com/vst/amp-sim-plugins.php (let us know how they work for you).
