  1. I saw the video, nice but the music sounds better with your eyes closed in that song... at least for me... I think that I read in computer music that is swinscoe the one that builds the songs choping from improvistaion tracks by the band, then he shows that to the band and they add things and so on... do you know something about it? also I think that on the cd says that in "all that you give" there's a sample from a santana song... For all you guys click here, watch the video and hear the music. fontella bass sings about her late husband Lester Bowie, jazz trumpeter of the Art Ensemble of Chicago. he died in nov 8, 1999. and if you check THIS link on sunday you can hear all songs from their latest album.
  2. I have never used pro tools so I can not tell the truth about it, but all the pro guys I know use only pro tools. my point of view is that pro tools is more than software, is a whole dedicated recording system that "resides" on a computer, so you have a very fast, safe and powerful tool to make your music. here is a Sound on Sound article from 2001 about it.
  3. "All That You Are" is AWESOME I almost cry the first time I heard it... I have all their cd's, got them by mail from ninja tune. what about the dvd's? are they concerts or what?
  4. I just read that John uses a stone!!!... well I tried that too, but the stones I found were not very hard and wear out really fast, also had an awful attack sound. I wrote about my picks on the strings thread Here. quoted:"also my picks are very strange because I make them myself using a thumb pick, a 3mm jim dunlop big stubby, some superglue and a dremel machine..." that's it!
  5. I have really strong nails, so they don't need much care, I just sand them once a week or so when they begin to look nasty... sadly I don't use them much but I like to have them always ready. I don't own a nylon string guitar...
  6. seems like..., but you can be VERY proud about it
  7. I also started playing with my sister's spanish guitar, it was an "oregon" brand, made in chile I think. then bought my first electric which I still play, a Pearl custom (sg shaped), I also have a 6 string acoustic made by Lito Benito who used to work at Taylor guitars as a luthier where he made guitars for people like Bon Jovi... I had a black Ibanez with a floyd rose and extra jumbo frets, very good guitar, but I sold it to buy a fender strat plus with gold lace sensors, a lsr rolling nut and locking tuners... sold it too. It's strange, beacuse of all that guitars the one that feels and sounds better is the pearl custom, the only bad thing about it is that the neck weights a lot so when you're playing the neck tends to go down... and you have to rise it with your left hand, so I normally play seated with that one. I want to buy another electric, but I don't know which one or when!
  8. I've been using the same cable since 97' and never gave me any problem. it's a whirlwind accusonic +1 Hi-z capacitance corrected (don't know what that means)and it has the fender logo on each extreme.
  9. well, I used to share flat with a "paul lover" so, I'm not going to argue with you because at the end is just a matter of taste... for me paul just did a couple of nice songs and the rest are just "silly love songs"... I loooove youuuu!
  10. you're right, you can trash most of mccartney's songs...
  11. funny how we started with the tuner and ended with the whole signal chain... what about our guitars?
  12. I think that the beatles have songs for every taste... you may not like them, but there's always a pair of songs that you like... ... unless you're a BEATLE HATER!!! but yes, they are more than classic, they are a huge link of the chain because they opened everbody's mind worldwide, and not only musically.
  13. I have, since some years now, an "Elto GT - 808 Chromatic Auto Tuner". it has: - Input. - calibration switch, you can choose from 438 to 445 (you know about A=440??!). - Built in Mic. - Battery Check. - DC 9V input.. - output. it can be used onstage because of the output. you run through it to the amp, it has also a needle meter and leds, but I just use it to tune when I first grab the guitar, and then until the next one... because my guitar stays in tune very well. about other fx like the digitech... for my taste that is too much, I have a Digitech Legend II, and I used it for years, but now I love the sound of my amp and a few pedals. when I play live I use a volume pedal, a blue boss compressor, an ibanez fuzz and an ibanez auto wha. also I don't use reverb on my music man RD-112 One Hundred. but when I record and mix is another story.
  14. moderator!!!!! kick this anti-beatle out!!!
  15. well, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it "a day in the life" by the beatles a "frankenstein" song?. the first part is lennon's song, then this bridge arranged by martin, then mccartney's part, and then return to lennon... does somebody know about it?
  16. I like to feel the tension of the strings, and also I get a very thick sound with a lot of "cojones". I love to customize my guitar stuff... I have a little cap between the hot and ground tips of my volume, so I can play with it without loosing high range, also added a on/off switch to play that "tom morello's" rythm chops, and another switch for humbucker/single for both pickups... and a tone switch, with a special capacitor that don't eat ALL the high range. when this switch is off, the cap is out of the circuit so it leaves the original signal pure. hey! I love my guitar!!! :
  17. for acoustic I normally buy gibson 0.13, but just because is the only brand that has 013's for acoustics down in madrid... as for electric, which is my favourite, I'm more specific, I buy each string separate, all dean markley's: - 1st .013 - 2nd .018 - 3rd .020 (plain) - 4th .030 - 5th .042 - 6th .052 I tune to Eb so I still can bend a little... and I'm thinking about thicken the 6th string, so my next could be a .054 or.056. I try to change them once a month or so... also my picks are very strange because I make them myself using a thumb pick, a 3mm jim dunlop big stubby, some superglue and a dremel machine...
  18. yes! Finn The Master is right!, you may not like it but is strong as rock'n'roll. and ofcourse I don't like eminem stuff, but I do like guys like Roots Manuva... and talking about Roots... have you heard the Cinematic Orchestra???! highly recomended stuff. and more if you are into jazz.
  19. any well constructed guitar can be setted up for fast noodlin', have you tried to low the strings a bit on the bridge or regulate the truss rod?
  20. finances?, I don't think that word exist in my life... I take my salary with one hand and pay for surviving with the other, so at the end of the month I'm almost naked and standing in the rain... again. I think we should pick this smiley for envy...
  21. well said, at last music bussiness is free!!! free fallin'!
  22. never heard of them, where are they made?
  23. usually I render each track to a new track in order to unload all fx from memory, then plug an eq to each track or route several tracks with same information to a common bus. I add automation information to any track that needs it (volume and pan), then mute all tracks but the bass and bass drum, check levels, then add the voice track and set levels, then I begin adding the other tracks... and that's when my head begins to ache!! normally all guitar, synths and piano parts are steping in the voice register, so I turn down the mids on them until I can hear the voice again, but normally I feel like I need higher education... all my mixes are a mess!! just one advice: if you reached a point when you don't know if it is ok or not, stop, go to sleep and return to it another day...
