Hooks
in Songwriting
I suppose it could also work against you! i.e. The above mentioned guitar hook in 'Don't Fear The Reaper' might sound less convincing played on a ukelele! In other words, the guitar 'sounds' right in this particular context!

Hooks
in Songwriting
I think we could do with an example of different hooks. I'd suggest 'Don't Fear the Reaper' Blue Oyster Cult as an example of a melodic AND a lyrical hook. I have no idea what the song is about? but it is instantly recognizable by the guitar intro 'hook' which repeats throughout the song. Another example of something completely different but again instantly recognizable is 'Close to You' Burt Bacharach. Made famous by the Carpenters. The simple piano arpeggio is a great hook!

The saddle screw is marked here in green. It adjusts the saddle (bridge) up or down the neck.
This might be usefull.

No it hasnt shaken my confidence at all.
It has drawn lines around the relationship though. Perhaps I'm more bothered about that? You know, realising this is something that cant be shared with a loved one.
Strange! She loves my songs...

At the moment I'm using a Soundblaster Audigy. I also have a Yamaha sw1000xg, but for some unknown reason, when I upgraded my mobo, it wouldn't work? Very annoying.I've been looking at som M-Audio cards. They seem to be the canines testes at the moment!

I suppose the upshot of this is an honest opinion? To me, it would be worse if they praised work that was not worthy. Or offered an opinion that was not really truthfull.

When I check intonation, I play the open string, then the harmonic and then the octave. If they all sound the same, it's OK!

Its been great so far. Intonation is spot on & I have beeen able to use it straight out of the box without a set it up.
Now if I could only think like a bassist. Disipline.... disipline...
Hang the Bass very low. Almost below the knees is good. Slump forward like there's a great weight on your shoulders, Half close both eyes and let your tongue loll from the side of your mouth. Ingest some illegal and obnoxious substances and place a burning cigarette in the opposite side of the mouth from the lolling tongue and you might just be approaching the frame of mind of the average Bass player.
n.b.
This description in no way resembles any Bass players here present who are fine musicians of exceptional calibre.

I've been to the Liskeard Trago. Massive. Will go again in Sept.
I love this guy! He places a full page ad in the local paper and gives his anti Euro political ravings before you get to the special offers!
