Keeping Track Of Song Submissions

Hi there,

This is a question for songwriters who pitch songs to artists, publishers et.c.

What method do you use to keep track of what and where you have sent your songs to?

Do you use a database on your computer such as Excel? Or perhaps you keep a file with handwritten notes?

I'm just getting back into the game after a while away doing other work and need to get organised.

Any tips would be appreciated.

I use Salesforce for all my business contacts now. You can ask for a free developer license which will allows you to hold 20M of data - which will be plenty. With some easy customization you can have full control over all your contacts and leads. www.salesforce.com

lol I dreamed this morning that someone posted saying they kept their submission record in their guitar case! I see it really was just a dream though!

To be honest as i indecated in my vote i don't keep a record of where i submit my songs

The main reason is i never really thought about it, however now it is in my mind maby i should.

Generally i only ever put my songs up for review and have a mental note of where/ who i send it to, although we are recording an album at the moment so maby some food for thought on how i should

My opinion is that if you can't remember who you're pitching to then there has to be something awry with the way you're working.

I mean, do you really pitch material so randomly that you lose track?

If you're pitching, are you not writing for targets?

Are you not carefully cultivating those targets?

If so, how can you forget 'em so easily?
