Great Niece Of Talented Muscian

Hello everyone!

When it comes to music, I am not as talented as you all probably are (I took piano lessons in elementary school, never practiced, and played flute in band through high school because my mom made me! But now that I have a piano in my living room, I am brushing up and practicing for fun!!!). I joined this forum to try and help my Great Uncle Alan, who is a musician/music teacher. He has provided a service, with only a handful of customers, to convert audio compositions into sheet music, adding accompaniment, chords, or melody lines if requested. He's retiring from teaching this year and has been trying to expand his business.

I'm wondering, do you own your own music notation software? Or do you use services such as the one that my uncle provides (would that be called music typesetting/engraving?)? Is there any other insight you could give me into the typesetting aspect of your work?

Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much!

Hi Cassie.

I do possess music notation softwsre.

One day I swear I will get around to using it properly.

Writing charts out by hand still gives me pleasure with benefits.

I enjoy fashioning the road-maps - assembling my tools at a desk - planning the page.

Personal satisfaction making something functional, portable, legible, and as good to look at as I can.

Also useful for studying and learning the music better.

Nonetheless I'm confident your Uncle Alan will find enough to keep himself busy.

I hope it all goes well for him.

You know - strictly speaking - I'm not sure this shouldn't be in some other, more overtly self-promotional, service-touting section of the board. I believe when posts get filtered off into "Advertisements" they become invisible. Banishment. But there is a lot which makes me want to take yours at face-vale. There might be a few folks here who might genuinely be interested in having a service like this within easy reach.

Welcome Cassie.

I use Cubase for music notation in the rare instances that I need it. It is pretty good, I think :) ...

Thank you all for the welcome! And sorry, I do not mean to break any rules, I do understand that unwanted advertising is annoying, and, well, unwanted! =) Thank you also Lazz and FinnArild for your input about music software. I think I'll help my uncle get on here to join the community!
