New Christian Artist

Recommended Posts

  • Noob

Hello, everyone! I just wanted to say thanks for letting me be part of your community of musicians! I'm just "officially" getting into a ministry as a Christian vocalist, and I might be asking for advice later on management and whatnot.

I actually have an attorney friend who has offered to submit my work to record companies as my manager at no charge. Does the attorney I have as my manager need to specialize in entertainment law?

Anyway, here's my website address: www.BrentSmith.com

I hope you enjoy it! Please sign the guestbook!

Thanks!

Not before you are about to sign or negotiate about anything. A specialist in entertainment often knows what you should try to get included/excluded in the contract, so I strongly advice you to contact a specialist for that job.

Myself being atheist I have a question, and I hope you don't take this the wrong way, I mean no disrespect - I'm just curious; when you say you are a christian artist, does that mean you are an artist who happens to be christian, or do you only sing christian material?

Hey Brent

Finn is right, but your friend (or yourself), should avoid submiting your tracks blindly to the record companies. This is a complete waste of your money.

Contact record companies first, make sure they are receiving demos at this point, what type of material they are looking for, and get the name of a person in the A&R department. In your initial letter contact, quote both the call and address it to a specific A&R man. This will significantly improve your chances of having your material listened to.

Cheers

John

Good advice Finn,

Brent, entertainment lawyers are indeed specialists. I see no problem letting your Friend handle things for now, but entertainment lawyers have special contacts, that's their job. A Singer recommended to a record exec. by someone he does not know WILL NOT get listened to. entertainment lawyers know the contacts and the contacts trust them not to recommend something that is a waste of their time, that is my understanding of how it works anyway.

As far as the "christian artist" thing goes, I understand your point Finn. A lot of bands type-cast themselves with this moniker, but in this case I think it applies. Check out his website.

Welcome to Songstuff Brent,

John Nightwolf

Yep, I should have taken a peek at the website before I asked.

Anyway Brent; it might be an idea to send your lawyer friend out to present you for other lawyers/managers who specialize in music.

I don't want to discourage you, but be aware that it's a jungle out there - read all contracts 50 times and if somethings sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Perhaps he read some of the other threads and found us rather too godless!
