Shoegaze And Other Beautiful Genres!

Recommended Posts

hello i am new here ( i am not trying to spam.i swear)

here is my first topic

shoegaze: one of my favorite genres! Hum,Centuar, ninth paradise and silversun pickups (reply if u know more)

are just to name a few....and i always wanted to know

1.what do you classify as shoegaze?

2.what do you use for shoegaze? and what effects are effective??

3.what's your favorite badn that has this label?

4.what doesn't cassify as shoegaze or space rock?

I think what classifys as shoegaze is

really spacey and heavy beutiful tones and slow and mid tempo kind of a sound.

it depends on how they think what it is...but the band HUM and Ninth paradise

are decent examples..mainly hum though cause they influence me so much on what does and doesnt

but the lead singers other band Centaur is a much better example..

i dont have any guitar effects as of now..but i plan on buying some pedals soon..

my favorite bands are HUM,silversun pickups and Ninth paradise(ninth paradise is a newer band thats really neat)

what doesnt classify as shoegaze to me is anyone who doenst put any time or effort in music and just thinks disortion does it all..there is more to it..but im learning more as i go :)

i like alot of genres but shoegaze (or spacerock) is one of my favorites..along with others too though..

what do u think?

what do u like?

what do you use for shoegaze?

Distortion with loads of reverb and delay.

And due to the many layers of instrumentals you have to feel the music much more than knowing the theory. It is hard to say what is right and wrong in shoegaze, unlike many other genres, where precision and clarity becomes the main focal, I will say that shoegaze in my humble opinion is a great genre to train your ears to hearing what is good and what is bad, more than what is correct and what is wrong.

Some examples of big Shoegaze bands includes My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, Ride etc.. Give them a listen!

I must admit....I learned something new from you guys this week.

Honestly, first time I looked at this post, I said to myself - "Shoegaze"...Come-on!

Somebody just made that up, right? LOL

But, I was curious, so I did a bit of Googling.

Who knew? There is actually a genre called "Shoegaze"!

Go figure! Never heard of it till you guys mentioned it here.

Tom

I'm glad it did Tom. I'm sure all of us felt the way you did when we first heard it haha. Made me learn a lot more about my pedalboard playing them.

Well, to be more exact, what it means is that the music requires extensive use of guitar effects. Thus, the instrumentalists are 'tap dancing' and looking down at their pedalboards most of the time. Which gave the impression of "staring at their shoes"
