Hi guys, I've been thinking about making my own web site and I need some help on the basic things...

where can I get some decent and cheap web hosting?

is there any fool proof web design software that makes all the complicated things automatic?

where do I buy my own domain?

Hey Hari

Songstuff is hosted with oneandone (.com, .co.uk). For several years they have been voted Europes No.1 Web host. About 2 years ago they launched US based hosting too.

Check their packages, but they will handle purchasing and maintenance of domains, and there are web development packages available to get you started.

I've been with them for 5 or so years with no real problems, which is more than you can say for most hosts.

now I have another question, how much space do I need to store my site?

is 2500mb enough space? (that one fits my budget).

my idea is to host a site with my music, some text and photos, be able to sell some mp3 and my daughter's drawings and maybe have a message board...

i found this example

A DJ mix of 60 to 70 minutes usually takes between 65 and 130 megabytes when compressed into a MP3 format file, depending on what bit rate (128kbps, 160kbps, 192kbps), and mode (CBR constant bit rate or VBR variable bit rate) is used.

So the MP3 file on average is 1 to 2 megabytes per minute of original music, or roughly 100 megabytes. That means if listeners do 10 downloads they would use 10x100 = 1000 megabyes or 1 gigabyte of bandwidth. If you had 10 gigabytes of bandwidth it would be enough for 100 downloads.

my wife studied graphic design, we have an old version of dreamweaver installed in the pc since day 1, but she can't remember anything about web design, so she gave me her dreamweaver book (I think she never opened it) and I'm going to try that...

I don't want a flashy site with animations, just a simple but elegant looking place.

yes, I'm in "pre-beta" phase just figuring out how to do things,
