Tips For Singing Lead Vocal...

Recommended Posts

You can improve your singing if you've got an ok voice to begin with. The brutal advice is that if you really can't sing you should probably stick to instruments. Otherwise, try things out, record yourself, see what sounds good and refine your technique, but above all don't do anything that hurts. If you feel pain after singing, you're almost certainly damaging your voice.

what if its just called music?

i tend to see vocals as having equal importance as any other instrument in the piece, and i write music which supports that.

and imo theres no such thing as a 'bad' voice. theres voices i wouldnt use yeah, but im sure they have a niche somewhere.

maybe im just an optimist, but i doubt it.

(see what i did there?????)

Not trying to put anyone off, everyone who plays should try singing. However, if you're voice really isn't great you might be flogging a dead horse. I'm definitely not saying don't sing if you have an unusual but artistically useful voice, like Bob Dylan. I'm saying that if your voice doesn't work for the kind of music you want to do, then sticking to instruments or maybe working with a vocalist is going to save you a lot of wasted time (or even a lot of embarrassment). We’ve all heard somebody perform who had a really horrible voice. Don’t be that guy.

i dont think anyone on this site is That Guy.

but once some people i kinda know, and almost wish i didnt, formed a System Of A Down cover band called Nuke The Whales.

their vocalist was That Guy. But maybe only because no one can do it like Serj Tankian.

(they lasted 3 weeks and had 2 gigs, neither of which was enjoyed by anyone)
