So probably

Come Wednesday

This lady called Claire

Will find a fantastical way

To say “you’re not all there”

And Dr Hill with his discerning stare

Will remind me like I’m crazy

That my medication is still there

There in his drawer

And I still ponder

What exactly these pills are for, I wonder

He checks boxes among his files

Like perfecting a self portrait without the smiles

it came to me in the middle of the night and i just wanted to use for something and it inspired a very situational/in-a-moment song x

Hey John,

I have two right now (it changes, what I like best). For both, because they stand alone well, follow a storyline or concept (in order!!) and the choice of phrasing etc; is kind of original. They also stand a test of time, I think.

Maternal Arms

vs

You and me and the power divine, I'd think about in a youngling mind

Seen left field with emerging eyes, heard history tell damning lies

Thoughts and gems, hearts revealed; jewels a maiden armed can steal

Wind and rain, touch that heals; patience an old woman yields

ch

In her old grey arms

Maternal arms

She feels everything

In her old grey arms

Maternal arms

vs

Woman flows dark on through the gloom, depth in one more aging moon

Your being holds me vague but tight, where's the balance dark and light

I bought her off, but she borne me; I lie await to look and see

Grandma in me: countess, foal; springtime my story grows old

ch

br

The gift is received when the old remain young

I've got to speak to you tonight in our secret tongue

A sense of wrong can lead me to right

Answers lay behind a cunning fear and a burning pride

In these arms

Her old grey arms

Maternal arms

Have become my

Maternal arms

Not sure. Probably ‘Jaquile’

I’ve never posted it up and I’m not sure where to lay my hands on it at present. Here is a bit I can recall.

‘…and do I know?

she has a penquin that prefers her to the snow?

it told her long ago, in an special look that it has when its adoring her…’

I think this is probably my favourite! It was written after an incident very close to where I live regarding the discovery of a new born baby, tied up in a sack and found in the estuary. It remains a mystery to this day. It was surmised that the baby was still born, but the mother was never found! This lyric is my interpretation of what might have happened. I have surmised that the mother was a young girl who got pregnant by mistake, and in desperation, gave birth and dumped the baby in the sea, where it eventually washed ashore. This is pure supposition on my part!

Save The Children

She was young, her naivety and innocence were gone.

And that January night is just a memory,

Such a tragedy.

It doesn’t show, she has kept it all a secret so no one knows.

But the time is getting closer now it’s very near,

She is full of fear.

Ooohhh save the children

Ooohhh save the children

A silent heart, and the fight for life is over before it starts,

And a teenage mother sheds her tears of sorrow,

And dreads tomorrow.

She stands alone, there’s a moment when she realises how she’s grown.

And her childhood lies buried now beneath the sea

It’s such a tragedy.

Ooohhh save the children

Ooohhh save the children

The tide has turned,

Secret places churned up unexpectedly

Such a tragedy.

The nightmare starts again,

But no one knows what kind of hell she’s living in.

Guilty feelings gathering again.

She hears them say, that the perpetrators of this crime should pay.

“We should throw away the key when she’s been locked away!”

There’s no excuse they say.

But they’ll never know, all the suffering through which she’s had to go.

And there’s no one she can turn to who will share the pain,

Her poor heart breaks again.

Ooohhh save the children

Ooohhh save the children

The papers say, police investigations are under way.

And they’re worried for the mother’s health and safety,

It’s such a tragedy.

She was young; she was just a child herself when this was done.

And there’s no one in the world that she can turn to,

Who can she turn to?

Ooohhh save the children

Ooohhh save the children

"At first I heard the boots, then smelled the whisky that he drank

And though I couldn't see him, I knew that it was Hank

He said I know that you're scared, but you're doing fine

Just remember the songs you write son, are the ones we left behind."

My husband Farlan, wrote many beautiful songs it's hard to pick just one, but this song, called "If you have lost it" is a very powerful song - it has a message, it has startling imagery and he sang it with great authority.

The song is about grief and loss and how to deal with it.

No matter how great your loss, whether it's a culture that's gone , or a great personal loss, if you stay with the pain and don't turn away from it you don't really lose anything. The world you're in may be different, you may be different, but the space you inhabit will be bigger, brighter and with more possibilities. The song also speaks about how your mind can trick you at times of grief, leading you away from your pain into a world of illusion and emptiness, far away from yourself.

"If you have lost it"

If you have lost it

Well it's gone forever

Until you find it again

But then! it's changed

It's a different shine

It glitters in a different way

If you have lost it

It's gone forever

It might only be a day

You learn how to say good bye

And the wild gulls fly

About your furrowed brow

Feed upon your years

Count nothing as lost

Live upon your countenance

Live upon your slow smile

Turn in time before you

Like so many worries

And you! you're so clever

You play chess with oranges

upon a black wall

Speak of the stars moving house

Speak of yourself in the fourth person

And all the while the wild gulls

unravel your brow...unravel your heart

Unravel your heart

this is mine because it's the first one I've written that I get stuck in my head! It's really catchy and infectious, it just annoys me a bit becuase I keep forgetting the first verse! DOH!

No Choice Left:

Your methods they are repulsive

Make no attempt to talk

That way you wont get caught

If you really want to win all our hearts

You gotta come in from the cold

And win back what you sold

Chorus:

(Because)

We are moving, twisting and rolling,

We're sliding towards the edge.

So just Love it, then Loathe it, then Fear it,

There's no choice left for us to make.

Verse 2:

It's got confused where the differences lie,

You say one thing,

He says the same thing.

I can't choose between the left and the right,

It's all the same now,

You're all Insane now!

Chorus

Verse 3: (slightly different feel...)

You caused all this fighting and bleeding,

Lying and cheating,

You're the cause of all this anger and hate!

You are the reason,

We're all happy to treason,

I hope that you're happy with your fate!

Rohan :)

wow, so many great lyrics that have character here

this is a personal favorite:

let's fly to jupiter, maybe we'll land on mars

make our way to venus, catch a shooting star

say goodbye to mercury, ooh i wonder where we'll be

wherever it is we're flying i'll be

i'll be coming home to you

- from center of my universe (working title)
