Hey Nigel

I dug out this old poem of mine...

Words

Most words have no meaning anymore

at least that's the way it seems

From when they're thought, to when they're said

except, of course, in dreams

Maybe they never meant very much,

at least they may have meant more

Perhaps circumstance makes me think that way

about the words and times before

Meanings, maybe like a colour fade

but that's the test of time

Words that once were carved in rock

with age are hard to find

Words of meaning, that today are said

have a right to claim their place

Yet I know as the years will pass them by

they will weaken like antique lace

i think there was a thread on lyrics about this very subject it must be on all our minds the fact that we need words eh?

so being in a good mood heres a 10yr old version on the same subject

    words

words useless like a blank page

if you fill them up with rage

words should make us think

before we start to sink

thoughts as blank as a blanket

like when something helps

and we forget to thank it

dreams clear as a day

in the morning they go away

never were meant to stay

we started out with just words

now i'm at a loss as what to write

i never could handle a fight

life the ever lasting lession

no lunch break and no messing

the out come....well it just keeps us guessing

I have a song on the theme of words

Sting In The Tail

My hands are trembling

And the letter is defending

Its right to keep suprises in store

As it slips through my fingers

The fear casually lingers

What new blood are you trying to draw?

A telegram is bad news

A letter is worse

It keeps that punchline

To the very last verse

And there in the post-script

There's a sting in the tail

There's always a sting in the tail (x2)

No words are necessary

It's all been said already

But you feel you have to speak

All the same

To fight an akward silence

A wild fleeting moment

You feel you have to tame

I hang on your every word

On suspense you depend

You save that cruel twist

Right til the end

And there in the post-script

There's a sting in the tail

There's always a sting in the tail (x2)

copyright Alistair McIntosh...ooooh, I'd say about 1982

This is a finished recorded song

Great ones both!

Although, in keeping with my poem, though heartfelt at the moment, in ten minutes it'll probably mean nothing! :o

Cheers

I like these a lot....

Reminds me of the opening paragraph to Stephen King's "The Body", which for those who don't already know is where Stand by Me can from. Thought I'd share it with you...

The most important things are the hardest things to say. They are the things you get ashamed of, because words diminish them--words shrink things that seemed limitless when they were in your head to no more than living size when they're brought out. But it's more than that, isn't it? The most important things lie too close to wherever your secret heart is buried, like landmarks to a treasure your enemies would love to steal away. And you may make revelations that cost you dearly only to have people look at you in a funny way, not understanding what you've said at all, or why you thought it was so important that you almost cried while you were saying it. That's the worst, I think. When the secret stays locked within not for want of a teller but for want of an understanding ear.

The link to my songs is

http://www.ic-musicmedia.com/artist_pages/...ge.php?id=81428

but I only have three on there at the moment, including a rough demo of Closure (Nige's lyrics)

'Sting In The Tail' I have on CD but I don't think I have the original file which probably means I can't convert the .cda file to MP3 to provide a link....unless any of you know differently. I'll look into it.

I'm planning to upload another track next week ('Rise Above', 7 minute funk/blues workout) and will obviously advertise this fact on Songstuff!
