  1. Hey Neo, wow haven't been on this site in ages. Still writing songs?

  2. Mazrocon

    Argh!

Quite alot of my stuff is completed in one sitting. But you guys have alot more to worry about... guitar, drums, vocals, lyrics. I compose instrumentals and write poems I don't combine the two. However some of things I do complete in one sitting aren't always the best things i've made. ~TIMOTHY~
  3. I liked it! I saw the awaken video/song. It's interesting... I like the effect on the eye distortions. You should post the lyrics, I would like to know them ~TIMOTHY~
  4. My music ends up sounding like classical/instrumental. Some of it's ambient (not usually) and alot of it's mood music. Stuff that you'd almost hear in a movie or a videogame At the point in my life I was obsessed on writing lyrics I think has come and gone though. That's not to say my love for writing has died down. I now write alot of short poems... most of which are haiku's (131) and limericks (11). I find it's much easier to write short poems that way you are not constantly rewriting it again and again. ~TIMOTHY~
  5. There is lots of songs that don't follow the basic ABABCB form. Johnny Cash's songs don't even really have chorus's (most of the time). Like Highwayman is just 4 verses and 2 music breaks. Man In Black is just 5 verses. Lithium by Evanescence goes BABCAB. I think it's awesome when musicians strive to do something different a bit different. I know what you mean about the verses being sometimes stronger and more catchy than the chorus. Rap songs are like that alot of times. Listen to Hands Held High by Linkin Park. The verses say alot more and are way more catchy. ~TIMOTHY~
  6. Hmm... you don't seem to talk much... I never really see you posting outside of posting your poems... I do like your poems, I just wish you would talk a bit more :P

  7. Welcome to Songstuff!

I haven't been on this site for awhile, so I see you are new to the boards.

I'm glad to see you being an active member on this site :)

  8. I don't think it's really a requirement for me to write songs. But before my older brother took my room, for awhile I was playing in my dad's office. The only thing I could play was my keyboard, anything else didn't seem right, it felt akward cause of the atmosphere and due to my consideration for other people's ears. I notice that i'm most creative late at night, probably cause there isn't much going on. Except for me and my keyboard However for lyrics I don't need a specific atmosphere at all. Well I don't like it when alot of people are talking, that distracts me. I have to be on the computer usually so I can write it all on word pad and adjust everything just right. But I never really think of starting a lyric, the idea comes to me and a few minutes to an hour later i'll have a lyric written down. Doesn't seem very thought out but alot of times it's like the song and the ideas all write themselves. ~TIMOTHY~
  9. I've been reading the comments and apparently it's about getting instant gratification. Whether or not it works well with the synth, midi effects and pitch adjusting voice I wouldn't want to do it. Doesn't anyone like to work your way up to great skill and talent? To actually have talent... instead of microsoft's robot? I admit guitar hero and rock band is entertaining, but playing could easily lose peoples interest in wanting to learn guitar. Once you get so good at it you can play it on expert with the hardest song perfectly, doesn't mean you have talent. It just means you play alot! I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out there was alot of people that were gonna learn a real instrument but didn't cause rock band and guitar hero is so much easier. Pick up a real instrument, or get a real voice... trust me it's alot more rewarding ~TIMOTHY~
  10. I think i'm missing something, I couldn't watch the video cause my computer was moving at a glacial pace. So what's all this about? Apparently microsoft did something horrible... ~TIMOTHY~
  11. Yeah aslong as there is one connection it's fine... I don't see any connection with Ain't No Sunshine and Champagne Supernova ~TIMOTHY~
  12. Well I use to write lyrics like crazy, and wrote them like 2 or 3 times a day! But most of my lyrics didn't turn out quite right cause the rhyme scheme wasn't the same through out the song... and then I only made a lyric once a week... and now not really at all :/ But then I found out about a new form of poetry called "Haiku" that doesn't have any rhyme. It seems like not worrying about rhyme lets be more free and be more creative. I have now written 74 haiku's in my collection ~TIMOTHY~
  13. It's hard to critique covers of songs I have never heard of. But I can tell you it was awesome! I have to be honest with you though... I did not finish the 8:46 long song, i'm sorry if I seem impatient but that is a really long song!! Most songs I listen to are rarely even 4 mins long let alone 8. Lol... But it looks like I am not the only one, all the youtuber comments loved it Well i'm afraid I don't know quite what you mean by technique, i've never played guitar or any instrument close to guitar. So far the only things I know how to play is my keyboard, piano and this little flute like instrument called an ocarina, lol. My favorite out of the songs was the rush cover, it felt really carefree and uplifting. Like not angry/frustrated rock... but just a nice mellow tune. Your son shouldn't waste his talent! I really hope he doesn't tired/bored of guitar or music!! But again as a suggestion, people would be more out to listen, read and critique your son's work if you post one link at a time... to avoid confusion ~TIMOTHY~

    Hooks

To me hook is the catchiest part of the song... a line or part that draws you in, and it's usually the title that's the hook. Three Days Grace is a great example of that. The greatest upside to three days grace is also their greatest downfall. It's catchy cause it's so repetitious, using alot of the same lines over and over again. Also a hook could be the most meaningfull part of the song, that just sticks in your head. Also a good hook could be like a clever line. Like in a Keith Urban song "And don't say that you're sorry and I won't say I told you so". ~TIMOTHY~
  15. "Everywhere I look theres questionmarks and problems Tough decisions, pressure and unfortunately It's all going past the capability of my head I'll just drop it all instead When there's trouble on my mind That I can't leave behind Bad thoughts of any kind You replace them with a smile With a simple change in focus From what's difficult to you What I'm singing in this chorus Will be absolutley true" Well how I start a lyric is basically the same way you do. I think of a subject/theme/meaning, start with a few lines, then work off that. Although I can see you are more worried about rhyme's then I am. I just kinda have a melody then start writing. If it happens to rhyme then great, but I don't really try to rhyme too much. If you have too many rhymes you'll most likely end up with forced rhymes and no message will really stick. Except for the fact that you tried to rhyme. Verse's are my weakness, I can usually make a good chorus but explaining further on the subject in the verse's are difficult for me. ~TIMOTHY~
  16. Lol yeah exactly!! I'm just glad that it's not all completely in my head, I get some it down ~TIMOTHY~
  17. LOL!! Were you the one holding the camera or were you one of the drummers? I liked it... even though it was very weird it got me nodding my head up and down... I almost started dancing lol ~TIMOTHY~
  18. Well that's not entirely what I meant... I mean you make something.... something that sounds great.... and then you record it to show everyone else, and it sounds a bit different. Like it only sounded good cause it was so fun to play it, but not fun to hear it. It's annoying when you have a bunch of "potentialy" great stuff going on but you can't continue. Can't add more to it. But recently alot of my "incomplete" piece's of music have been completed, and in my opinion sound great. I'm really anxious to post 'em but my friend is extreamly hesititant on me posting anything online. Btw... welcome back! ~TIMOTHY~
  19. Do you ever make something that sounds amazing in your head and you get all excited, then you quickly record it. Then hear it "without" playing it, and you are a bit dissappointed? I've done that a few times, it's amazing how different it sounds when you aren't concentrating on hitting the right notes and just sitting down and hearing it. Anyways... I just want to let everyone know I haven't forgotten about this site. I know I haven't been on here in like months. But i'm just trying to get this stuff recorded.. and copyrighted ~TIMOTHY~

    Jokes

01 Chuck Norris' tears cure cancer. Too bad he has never cried. 02 Chuck Norris counted to infinity - twice. 03 Chuck Norris does not hunt because the word hunting infers the probability of failure. Chuck Norris goes killing. 04 If you can see Chuck Norris, he can see you. If you can't see Chuck Norris you may be only seconds away from death. 05 Chuck Norris sold his soul to the devil for his rugged good looks and unparalleled martial arts ability. Shortly after the transaction was finalized, Chuck roundhouse kicked the devil in the face and took his soul back. The devil, who appreciates irony, couldn't stay mad and admitted he should have seen it coming. They now play poker every second Wednesday of the month. 06 When the Boogeyman goes to sleep every night he checks his closet for Chuck Norris. 07 Chuck Norris built a time machine and went back in time to stop the JFK assassination. As Oswald shot, Chuck Norris met all three bullets with his beard, deflecting them. JFK's head exploded out of sheer amazement. 08 Chuck Norris has already been to Mars; that's why there are no signs of life there. 09 They once made a Chuck Norris toilet paper, but it wouldn't take shit from anybody. 10 A blind man once stepped on Chuck Norris' shoe. Chuck replied, "Don't you know who I am? I'm Chuck Norris!" The mere mention of his name cured this man blindness. Sadly the first, last, and only thing this man ever saw, was a fatal roundhouse delivered by Chuck Norris. Hehehehe ~TIMOTHY~
