  1. I learned how to play the guitar about 4 years ago, when I was 18 years old. I started "writing" lyrics when I was 14... which was 8 years ago. I am just NOW putting both of those together and finding my own melody at the age of 22. So what I'm saying is... the only thing stopping anyone from making music is themself. OH and I forgot to mention, I have no formal education of music. Everything I've learned has been on my own time, in my own setting.
  2. I agree with roxhythe -- in so many words, people that are living.. real.. people.. make the internet. The internet is life in it's most basic essence. You choose how you perceive it. You either take part in it (interact with the internet) or you abstain from it (choose to ignore it's there). Either way -- as John Frusciante says in his song "Unreachable" off of his new album "The Empyrean": One time, hit me where I turn white... I don't need to be polite BEAUTIFUL.. Spin in the world to the beat of my drum UNIFORM
  3. Well I guess I'll take a shot at getting the ball rolling.. For one, the internet changed EVERYTHING. I realize that's broad, but when you begin thinking about what the internet actually made available to musician's once other musicians started using it; the boundaries of what you could learn about music and ultimately what you could do with music became almost non-existent
  4. thanks for the warm welcome guys I appreciate it
  5. How's it going everyone? I stumbled upon this site earlier today and thought I'd introduce myself. My name is Ryan, I'm 22 year old, I live in Iowa, and I'm currently taking some time off from school to sort a few things out. Musically speaking; I started writing songs and poems around the age of 12. However, it wasn't until I went off to college that I picked up the guitar. I've been playing the guitar for a little over three years, it wasn't until this point that I considered myself a musician and began writing actual songs as opposed to lyrics. I've been through a lot in my life, most of it at an early age too. Spent three months at an in-patient rehab center a few weeks after my 17th birthday, and have been struggling with drug abuse in one way or another ever since. Along with the problems with addiction came a whole slew of other problems; that all-in-all make for some great lyrics. I don't mean to glorify drugs by any means, but it's had the biggest effect on my life above anything else. Anyway, sorry for such a long introduction, if you have any questions for me, don't be afraid to ask
