  1. "Ye've goat a face like a well skelped arse" "You have a face like a well spanked ass" Old slang from Glasgow Scotland. Used, generally in a good natured way, a friendly put down, to call someone ugly, or if they have a very red face making them unattractive.
  2. Hey Gang I thought it might be an interesting idea for members to introduce others to their local slang terms and phrases. You know, those nuggets of wisdom, inherent humour, brutal honesty that people not far away will never have heard of. in doing this you may well find that terms you thought local, actually originate somewhere else. Equally, a term you think local may well be used a lot more broadly than you might think. Of course, hopefully we get introduced to a colourful world of unexpected terms... And who knows, they may just inspire you. Ideally provide both how it is said, and a clear English version, plus provide how the term or phrase is used, what it means. lastly, please include where this term or phrase is used and where you think it originates from. For example: "Yer heid's fu' o' wee doors, n' they're aw bangin'" "Your head is full of small doors and they are all banging" Old slang from Glasgow Scotland, used often by an older person to a younger person whose head is full of ideas all vying for their attention such that their next plan is always best and another will come along any minute, so they never really do anything. Said also to distracted people and people who talk a lot without saying anything. A lot of noise about nothing meaningful
  3. Hi What is your current Keyboard / Synth set up? Some like the latest and greatest, some like to stay classic... most probably have a mix. My current set up is pretty dated in terms of hardware: Korg 01W/FD Roland EP7 and an external sampler as a sound module, an EMU Esi 4000
  4. NIce one Lisa! Thanks for your support!
  5. Hey Tron Ron Ron, welcome to Songstuff
  6. Hi LBro, Welcome to Songstuff! Good to have you aboard. Cheers John (singularly least impressive board name anywhere )
  7. Welcome to Songstuff, love your board name!
  8. Hey stretch welcome to Songstuff. Take a look at our song form articles. You might find it useful to build on them and refer to them from your articles? Maybe not, I thought I'd suggest it anyway. You may also be interested in contributing to our member articles or even our site articles Either way, welcome aboard. Dive into our community. It's run by volunteers, and our members are a good bunch, Cheers John

    Hello!

    Hi Fried, welcome to Songstuff
  12. I should say... good luck luck with your site!
  13. No worries Mike. I wasn't trying to steal the rug, as they say. I wasn't sure if you were thinking money or if it was just a "wouldn't it be a nice idea" thought. If you ever decide to shut it down, give me a shout and we can maybe transfer it and at least preserve the info. what cms did you opt for? I have been looking at process wire as a replacement for the www.songstuff.com domain. Hosting wise, you could do worse than the free hosting plan at Anazon AWS. It is scalable from a basic shared virtual server right up to worldwide mirrored multi server set ups... Though the latter are most definitely NOT free lol. I wish!
  14. You could add it here... Just saying lol in the same way we have member articles, it is very little effort to create a wiki database as a separate feature. I am assuming it's not to make money Mike? Is there another reason you want it on a site of it's own? just a suggestion as an alternative
  15. Welcome to Songstuff you our can always change your name later... Or not
  16. No worries. Never mix with closed back cans... it's that bad lol
  17. In that price bracket.... Nothing I have experience of, although you can get a nice set of beyerdynamic DT 990 Pros for about £150 (though up to £200). They are good open back cans. For closed back recording cans I still recommend DT 150s. You can get a set for about £110, but no good for mixing. Not sure of price but DT 880 pros are good semi closed cans. the closest Sennheiser open backs I have experience of would be the HD 650, or HD 600s but both are about £230-250 AKG I have used, but not for so long or recently enough I could make a recommendation. iirc beyer have a budget open set down about £40, but I have no experience of them.
  18. Hi and welcome to Songstuff!
  19. No worries Richard. I really appreciate you thinking of the well being of the community and helping with growing the site. Please, don't be discouraged, keep the ideas coming! There are bound to be things we haven't thought of, and there are always ways that you can help (officially or unofficially). We rely upon the goodwill of our members and their interest in spreading the word about this place. The more we get involved, the better
  20. Hi Richard It's an idea that has been mentioned a few times, but with no one really driving it nothing has happened. Also, the practicalities always end up putting people off. As an idea, it might seem very appealing, the kind of thing that represents the community, that pulls us together and represents the community to the world (plus of course the possible vanity benefits for individuals and learning possibilities, plus perceived tangible promotion benefits) but there are some serious legal issues in doing such a project, in addition to a complex funding model. Not insurmountable, but very time consuming. There are companies that specialise in such things, but I have always found the benefits to be questionable (at best) and no matter the claims, they really amount to vanity projects. Don't get me wrong, promo compilations COULD be beneficial to those artists involved, but in my experience, the implementations are half-hearted, lip service towards genuine benefits. Perhaps there Realistically this would eat up way too much time, and expose Songstuff to significant, unnecessary risk with no real possibility of remuneration for time or risk, with questionable benefits for all involved. We have been considering providing some label and publishing support services, but we are not there yet. We have to implement several things to be in a position to do so. We do not intend offering these support services commercially. Instead they would be available as a small part of the thank you to members who support Songstuff financially, with the services being provided by interns. Skipping steps would not be in the interest of either the site or community at this time. We have the know how, but there are practicalities involved... for example trying to stretch a site with no real income (currently) as risk always involves money, lawyers etc. and we have a limited workforce in terms of numbers (something our upcoming intern programs could help with).... but the investment is not worth it unless it was something we were doing regularly, and we wouldn't do that unless we could do it right and really make it worthwhile for the artists involved, and the site... and that I just can't see happening. If we were to get into actually being a label or publisher (rather than simple support services), I don't see Songstuff focusing on compilations, purely because of the complications involved and importantly... I don't believe it is the best bang for buck for the artists. Additionally... I really, really, really, wouldn't want Songstuff to be seen as a compilation CD scam. If you and others decide that you do want to go ahead with this project (as I say, I can understand the appeal), I really do wish you well. There are a lot of things for you to consider. One key thing is the distinction between it being a vanity project and a serious project. It would be a very important distinction for those involved, and it is something that would need to be clear right from the start. Cheers John
  21. I agree with Rudi. If anything use it to focus your efforts. Doing one gig has it's benefits, but more importantly it will remind you why you loved doing it before and maybe that taste will encourage you in new and interesting directions. Something like this, unexpected and potentially good fun, can be a very welcome break from the mundane and depressing aspects of daily life. think of it as a rut breaker (even when that rut is one caused by jobs and economics) let's face it, a new guitar fills a very similar space.... It could be a first gig outing for your variax... Also money earned from music should be spent on music just saying lol
  22. So many good songs to choose from.... I'll have a think. Blue Moon, the Ballad Of Mack The Knife, Summertime, Ev'ry Time We Say Goodbye... Hmmm
  23. Btw I enjoyed the listen to your music. Very mellow, builds nicely and it's generally nicely mixed, though I think I would have used a brighter tone for the vocals in the earlier verses... Still, good job.
