  1. Is it an instrumental, or have you a melody still to record? We can always convert a stereo track if necessary, very easily. Your recent guitar and vocal would be fantastic. Do you have separate tracks? I will look at creating a "Tracks for remixing" album in the gallery. I plan to record a guitar and vocal myself. I will post it up so anyone can remix it. Maybe even a two guitar and two vocal track.
  2. Hi Tamara Welcome to Songstuff! I look forward to some interesting music discussions with you. Cheers John
  3. Hi and welcome to Songstuff Gecko!
  4. Here's hoping your neighbour doesn't read this and start complimenting you!
  5. One instrument and one vocal. Often guitar and vocal but really could be any instrument. Ideal would be to have two tracks, one for each. The idea is to give someone enough that they can re-imagine your song. That way you can create a folk song and someone does a dance remix, or you do a dance song and they rework it as funk-rock etc. Or they simply keep the style and give it a new, in-style arrangement.
  6. It would certainly be more challenging, but not impossible. More time intensive without a puter...
  7. Hey Jari Welcome to Songstuff! Good to have you aboard. Cheers John
  8. Hey Gang Would you be interested in doing Remixes of tracks as part of new remix contests? It's a great way to experiment, to focus on mixing and production... and ideal for producers who lack other musicians to play with or good midi instrument skills. Please reply, and when we launch our first contests I will message you to let you know the contest is running. Cheers John
  9. Hi Gang I wondered if any of you would be willing to contribute multitrack audio versions of your songs for remix contests? Ideally no more than 16 tracks of audio, though I am sure we can do more, but the more audio, the less members can take part. I would love a bunch of 1 + 1 songs for remix contests. Two requests: instruments on pitch played to a click track with a known bpm. Tracks not on click can be remixed but it is far harder. If you are interested please reply here. If you are interested in doing actual remixes in contests, I will start another topic to gather names, also in the musicians lounge. Cheers john

  11. Hi and welcome to Songstuff Pixel.
  12. Hi Anon, welcome to Songstuff
  13. There is certainly a balance to be had. I wouldn't be infavour of removing a song, but having things in the appropriate place. I don't think there is an auto duplicate option, indeed most of what we do is about avoiding duplication... but I will look into what 3rd party add ons might yield some useful options. That aside Dek, I plan to post up a few options for the critique are restructuring, and for other areas of the site tomorrow. Hopefully that will help us to have a board that is fit for purpose, in the ways that our members want to use the boards. Thanks for all your input, it has been very useful. The same goes for all of you. Your ideas and comments have helped loads. Cheers John
  14. I have absolutely no problem with anyone making suggestions for improvements. Your comments and ideas are as welcome as any member
  15. There may well be further changes, but after the reaction to the last lot of changes I want to make sure anything we do is supported. I do notice that so far lyricists have not voiced much of an opinion either way. What would be good is if members spell out what they would like to see along with any reasoning. As ever we can't make everybody happy, but we do want to improve things. That some do not like the changes is apparent, but there have been a number of suggestions for change. That aside, this poll is specifically about the rap and hip hop boards, which I think can be addressed outwith whether we have a separate lyrics board or not. That is why I asked it as a separate question. I had also asked that members try the current board structure while we sort out what we are going to go ahead with. Things are not set in stone but I think it right to at least take a few days to discuss and decide on future structure.
  16. tag based access restrictions are not possible with our software. I am not aware of it being possible on any forums. The issue is not words, so much as themes and concepts involving things like sexual violence etc which some rap and hip hop (and other genres) songs have a lot of. We can't make absolutely sure kids cannot access such content, but we can make it less accessible. It isn't stopping our members writing that, or anything else, as a creative work, but it is trying to acknowledge it is an issue. We have no convenient watershed cut off.
  17. The prize was the interview, newsletter promo etc (free informal challenge, not so much a contest) and it was for lyrics only.
  18. Hi Gang The Rap & Hip Hop board was created separately for two reasons: It was requested by members Frequently lyrics were adut themed or some contained other parental advisory elements etc. I thought I would ask you what you wanted and then try to give you that. This board is meant to be non-public. ie only registered members can see it to at least stop young kids accessing it so easily. I am open to suggestions but we either have a public rap & hip hop board that doesn't contain such topics plus a member only rap & hip hop board, or we merge rap & hip hop into the main boards... ie non adult or other parental advisory posts would live in the main "mixed genres" board, and parental advisory posts would go in the "restricted access" board. There are advantages and disadvantages to both approaches. On balance I think the merged option means you get more reviews. Your choice! Please vote asap. Cheers John

Hi Leo I don't want you to think we have done nothing with this. The staff have been talking behind the scenes, thinking on some sort of brief but also some questions. I'll fire you a PM. Many thanks again for your offer of help! Much appreciated. Cheers John
  20. Hey Ricky, welcome to Songstuff, good to have you aboard! What kind of music are you making? What's your music/writing background?

    Hi

Hi and welcome to Songstuff Russell!. Liking most if your influences. Looking forward to hearing your material.
  22. I think it is good to at least try other areas. It gives you insight, which can change how you do things. You can also discover you actually enjoy and / or are good at other roles. It can give you a better understanding of contract negotiation, the implication of contract clauses, make you better when interacting with others doing those roles, and help you keep cost under control at earlier stages of your music career / hobby. Of course the balancing factor is the extra time it takes. There is a balance to be had. In general I would say do what you are good at and what you are passionate about, but don't be afraid of trying new things. My only caveat is where time becomes short, that you are ready to relinquish extra roles to allow yourself to focus on your core passion.
