Took it. I am also with Rudi - I don't promote diddley. I do think its a little interpretive. The term 'listeners' made me think. It kind of, as a majority depends on age. For instance my teenage Granddaughters have no interest in independent music, for the most part the younger generation goes with the social flow, even those who are musicians (when I was younger I wanted to be Pete Townshend or Jimmy Page and be a group destroying hotel rooms). As we mature our taste and musical knowledge expands. For me now once a band becomes mainstream/radio friendly, I tend to lose interest and look for something else. There will always be exceptions, but for the most part I want to experience a personal new discovery. For instance Josh Stone, I first heard her on public radio, a little girl with a big voice singing legitimate soul music ---- then they talked her (for the most part failingly) into trying the diva route. I had to move on. We all have our own examples. That's why we gravitate toward independent music and look forward to hearing music on this site.
I think that's the most long winded I've been. I like the shadows.
