  1. From what I've experienced, heard and read: Talk as little as possible before - drink loads of water. Warm up carefully. Try to cough and rinse as little as possible - do it carefully if you have to. Rest your voice afterwards.
  2. I can help you do some simple stuff if you want. I use PHP all the time.
  3. Potato shaped? ... and only $500 for the party - not with Norwegian booze prices Anyhu ... setting up a budget myself now, for possibly realeasing on my own label. The above is some of the reason why. Not that I think that _all_ the music industry is necessary that rotten (at least not most of the indies), but I would only end up with roughly 10% of PPD (or possibly rabated sales price, usually 20% off PPD). And have much less control over the outcome. I'd much rather pay the producer 10-16%, the distributor 10-20% and end up with roughly half the earnings myself. I'm a bit unsure about how to attack the marketing, though. I'll write down my experienses as I go along, and maybe it will make for a nice article some day.
  4. Another scam warning. There's a website called NES.tv (not linking them up) which tries to charge you $40 to upload a song into something they called "Virtual Artist" (there was a membership fee of $57). You could also be a "Virtual Manager" and a "Virtual Record Company". When I pointed out that for that kind of money you could have your own website and domainname for a year all my posts were deleted and I was banned from the forum They will turn your hard earned dollars into "Virtual Money" real quick.
  5. Hi - thought I'd tip you on this free internet telephony application. I use it to phone all my friends now. http://www.skype.com
  6. That's the good thing being located in Norway. If somebodys ass needs kicking, I can literally go kicking. It's a sandbox.
  7. I'll bet that was the englishman (the devil) - you should really get hold of some Dolby .... or Hackett ...
  8. Thank you. I just got comments from this girl at work (who ain't that good an english speaker herself, when I come to think of it) that my pronunciation was a bit "off" - whatever she meant. Maybe she just doesn't like me. Or does.... hmmm. Anyway, yes, living in Norway for all my life has made Norwegian my first language. But having an English mother and also now having worked in an international environment for several years has made my English very much better. Thanks for putting my mind at rest. I knew that
  9. I need to ask you guys for an honest answer. Those of you who have heard my stuff, did you at all react on something in my english pronounciation in general? I do have an english mother and have spoken the language since I was little, but I'm still worried some norwenglish could have sneaked in.
  10. I stopped smoking April 2003 and have since got a much better voice (and also, I bought my Bassguitar and Digitech GNX3 for the smoking money - whith a LOT to spare - tobacco is expensive in Norway: around $25 for 50 gram pack of tobacco). Anyway, what's your experience singing and smoking - or stopping smoking? It's also said that other substances, like kaffein, is just as bad. Anyone have experienses here?
  11. Here's some useful links: http://searchenginewatch.com/webmasters/ http://northernwebs.com/set/ http://www.thesitewizard.com/archive/google.shtml Hey guys, what do I need to do to convince you? I know many of you have your own websites. Help me help you!
  12. Peter Gabriel - A persona, with really, really deep lyrics. We're talking layers, here. Annie Lennox - Must be the best female vocalist on the planet. Kate Bush - Hmmm or she might be the best. Musically the best writer, certainly. ... and there are just so many others ...
  13. Well, antichrist is pretty irrelevant for us, being atheists
  14. Well google checks not only the target pages, but also links to those pages. There are several pages on the net covering this subject. (A lot of them conflicting on the details, though).
  15. Well, there are some things you just cannot do without a capo. Like a C#maj7 in the 1 band position. You could of course play it like a Amaj7 in the 4 fret position, but it just won't sound the same. So I wouldn't say it's a matter of convenience only but also very much a matter of sound.
  16. ... also known as "the right way"
  17. Alistair, I linked you up anyhow. Since you are such a cool dude and make such great lyrics and music. If you find out how to set up a link back again, feel free to do so, but no sweat.
  18. All this is, of course, true. But it doesn't mean one shouldn't try to improve on your instrument technique.
  19. Yes, exactly. Things that ain't true are lies. And I don't like lies.
  20. Great point - not "how good are you" but "how good do you make others".
  21. Hmmm I might be a tad over-sceptic, but here goes: 1: After I became member of this site it took several weeks before approval 2: Site claims to have had 95 users online on january second 3: I tried to post something - post moderated away without notice 4: google doesn't seem to have previously have done any indexing on www.merseybeat.net 5: google can't find any inlinks to www.merseybeat.net 6: there hardly ever seems to be any traffic or comments on the site. This all suggest to me that this site has some ways to go before it is serious. Yet it has been claimed that several record companies (Sony was mentioned) regularly browses this site. Now - ask yourself: How likely is that, really? On the frontpage it says: "We are actively seeking the stars of tomorrow. With an international team consisting of record companies, promoters, DJ’s and Journalists, this is the place to hang out." I have a rule of thumb that is very useful: when something looks too good to be true, it most likely is.
