  1. Thank you, John for the very valuable information. I, myself, think it is a good idea to youtube or soundclick it. Some of the things I have done have shown up on other sites. I posted them just to have them online so people in music/lyrics critiques could critique them. They were very rough demos to give an idea of how the lyrics should be sung. I didn't expect anyone to copy them and post them on other web sites, though I don't mind in those cases. If I am not mistaken, it is also a great way to copyright them.
  2. Everyt time I hear another song, I could add another name... John Lennon is a fantastic vocalist. Twist And Shout is a perfect example.
  3. Male Singer = John Fogerty, Axl Rose, Freddie Mercury, Bob Seger, Conway Twitty Female Singer = Ann Wilson, Grace Slick, Chrissie Hynde, Agneta Åse Fältskog, Mariah Carey,
  4. By the way, it's not HELL (again) It's supposed to be HELLO (again)
  5. I am back. I was using the name voodoo wildcaat here before, but will use my real name from now on. Voodoo Wildcaat is an anagram of David Woolacoot and would be my band name, if I had a band. It is also going to be a character in a book, cartoon, movie, comic, etc... if I should ever write anything more than song lyrics. Anyway, I took some time away from writing and am now back with a vengeance. I am seriously seeking singers/bands to perform my lyrics, if they wish to, so will be posting a lot in the collaboration section as well as the critique section. I feel with having written close to 600 lyrics, I am confident enough to have them publicly performed, maybe even by me... Rock On!
  6. I wrote this as a song, but it may actually be better as a poem or spoken word performance. Wadda Ya Think? Please be brutally honest. I can take it. "Eternally Free" by David L. Woolacoot I woke to the sound of waves Beating up against the shore My face was full of sand My head was kind of sore I didn’t recall much Of life before arrival All I could think of Was my own survival I knew not where I was I could not recall my name Nor could I think of How I even came The sun was beating down Hotter than I ever knew I had to find some water I hoped there was some food I came upon a village It seemed I was alone I had to get some help Maybe find a phone Then I heard the whispers Coming from all around Saying welcome to the stranger To our sacred ground I could not see the speakers I looked everywhere It’s as if they all were spirits Riding on the air Then right out of nowhere Much to my surprise The most exquisite woman Right before my eyes She took me by the hand And said come with me She led me to a hammock Tied to two palm trees She laid me down to rest Said it’s time for you to sleep I could not resist She controlled me completely I then witnessed my whole life Flash before my eyes Everything that happened Before I had arrived I saw pain and anguish Every day a fight No happiness or love Throughout my entire life I couldn’t take it any longer Ended what I didn’t ask for Next thing I remembered I woke up at the shore I saw her watching over me When I opened my up eyes All I could do was weep And cry and cry and cry I begged her not to let me Remember any more Please don’t make me suffer I can’t relive the horror She gently touched my face Wiped away the tears Relieved me of my pain Banished all my fears I could stay forever She told me I was home Where I was loved and wanted I’d never be alone I felt complete calmness Serenity and peace I was finally content Eternally Free
  7. Never cry over a breakup. It's not worth it. Move on... I like this. It's sometimes best to write when you are angry, happy or sad because it makes the piece more realistic and pure.
  8. Wow, good writers here. This could be turned into a rap-style song or even included in a screenplay as a speech.
  9. Is a prayer a poem? Did you sneak that in here? Ha! Just kidding. I think it is nice. I might be liking this poem section better than the lyrics section!
  10. I think lyrics are poems and vice versa, really. I think this is well written and could be about aging.
  11. Hi John. I hope you, and everyone else here, is well. I am currently writing a 50 short story, that may turn out to be a novel. I am also reading screenplays and one-act plays to learn the form so I too, can write some of my own. I am expanding. I guess after writing over 500 lyrics, it's time for something different, although I still write at least 10 songs per month. Cheers to you all.

  12. just dropped by to say hello :)

  13. Happy B-day.

  14. Happy Birthday and congratulations. I, for one, appreciate sites such as this as they give me an opportunity to get my creations 'out there'. I welcome the opportunity to have others critique my stuff and give me ideas on how to become a better lyricist. Reading, and critiquing, the work of others also helps me become a better writer. We can all learn from one another.
