  2. Toms Song was: "Good Feelin' To Know" She Bop is about Masturbation Sweet Baby Jane - U2
  3. She Bop - Cyndi Lauper ( bet you didn't see that coming )
  4. Who said anything about thinking your words are considered before you speak them? I think your rants are normally induced by huffing model glue. And unless you're an insurance agent, you probably wanted to ensure that your Jedi mind trick got a response from me. peace
  5. You must have misunderstood. I don't have a "feel good at all costs" philosophy by any means. I was just saying it has it's place, and especially with new posters that are posting their stuff for the first time. I'm to the point where "feel good" posts are somewhat of a disappointment to me. I want to know what's wrong, where, why and how to fix it. That's the main thing I'm looking for. But I also know that with any song I post, there's a good chance that I won't be getting that feedback. I accept it as "it is what it is." I honestly love friction, sometimes though I don't like to see it on the board of someone's song or post, especially if it doesn't pertain to the song/post. (Similar to what I'm doing right now) Please Rob... keep Frictioning. It does help liven things up from time to time.
  6. It could also be "like" based. For example, once you achieve 50 likes, you gain access to a "higher" level. Although typing that makes it sound a little like playing Farmville. I actually had the thought once of Songstuff having an internet radio station that consisted only of songs that have achieved a certain number of likes, voted on by members with a certain minimum number of posts (to keep peoples friends from signing up just to vote for a song).
  7. I was actually talking about "listens" which I can track on SoundCloud or Reverbnation. As in: if I'm getting a lot of listens but no comments, I take it as there's something missing in the song or it's not as good as it should be. I could be wrong about it but I always feel if people really like a song, they will say something. I also think that if they don't like a song, more often than not, they won't say anything. Obviously there are more factors at work, that's just one aspect.
  8. I value it for sure... for what it is. I think sometimes people think it is more than it actually is and sometimes people don't read through the lines enough. Songstuff is a great place to get your music listened to and also get some good critiques, but it's also a place to make you feel good. Everyone is different in what they expect. When I first came here, I enjoyed the "good song", "great guitar" comments. It made me feel more confident about my writing and let me know it's okay to move forward. As musicians (artists) we all have a desire to have our ego stroked a bit even if we say we don't. There are some people on here that always give great critiques and others who don't. I take them both equally whether positive or negative. I use my "listens" on soundcloud as a critique themselves. If a song gets a lot of listens, you're doing something right. If it doesn't, something's missing. If I ever hit on a song that gets a "ton" of listens, I know that one's a keeper. I don't mind people not saying much in their critiques. Maybe they don't know what to say but at least they're saying something. When people aren't saying anything it's never good for the site. I'm a moderator on TheSongwritersForum and everyone there seems to be pretty tight-lipped. I will say I never come here expecting a professional critique of my songs. Although at times I've gotten what I've thought to be really great critiques. In short: I get what I get, and I don't throw a fit. It really does no good. Would I like there to be a place on Songstuff to get a really pro/hard critique? Definitely. Even if it cost a little. But I wouldn't want the entire site to be like that. Not for me as much as the new musicians that come here to post their first songs or lyrics. I think it would be cool to have a "serious critique only" section but I can't imagine it would work as a free section. I think there would be too many posters and not enough people to critique. Sorry for the disconnected rambling - I've got to think about it and get it all in before lunch ends.
  9. I think we need to tell him to Beat It. Wow, that was a crappy joke...
  10. I'd say it could be done, and has, but it's a big hill to climb. If you recall there have been various acts as you've mentioned in the past, Anthrax/Public Enemy, Faith No More, Cypress Hill, kind of the Beastie Boys. I'd say there is less competition maybe, but regardless, what you do needs to be top notch and good enough to make it big. Same as all the other genres. It doesn't matter if it's Gospel/Rap, Country/Techno, or Rockabilliy/Classical if the song has all the magical components falling into place, it can make it big. It may be harder to go it alone, and especially when costs/finances are concerned. I will say though, if that's what you want to do, then go for it! Start as one and add other musicians as needed and when you can. Of course going it alone does depend on your musical abilities/ear too, not just the vocals.
  11. Are you tapping both the 12th and 19th at the same time? If not, for me the middle fingers the best for tap harmonics.
  12. I write, play and record all of my songs but always with the thought that they'll need to be re-done professionally. The first thing I need to do is get the songs recorded correctly so I actually have a "product". I do have a well thought out plan for an EP or CD, but I can't do any of it without cash. So for now, I keep writing, playing and recording as much as possible so I have more songs to pick from when the time comes for me to actually record.
  13. So you want to sell the public some good songs, some bad songs but the main thing is, you want to look good when driving your car?? <--- Read that a few times. I do agree with John about the EP. I had a similar plan as yours with an Album. I've concluded that even though I have enough songs for an album, it may be smarter to do a 4-5 song EP to get the exposure first. Of course you can play all the other songs while you perform and that may get the people that like your stuff excited for the next EP or the Full Length Album.
  14. An old tune I used to skateboard to. Round, Round - Belouis Some
  15. I never practice. What never? Hardly ever! When I'm lucky, I play guitar about 4-5 hours a month and about 3-4 hours of that includes actual recording time. I will pick it up and play for about 5 or so minutes here and there to try to figure out how to play what I have going on in my head. It's a rarity if I actually know how to play everything once I start recording. I usually get the main parts down via the 5 minutes, and fill in the rest on the fly while recording. It sucks, but I just don't have the time for it. One day though, when the kids are a little older, I plan to play more... and maybe even learn some scales. I know some, but mainly by trial and error.
  16. As this is an actual, genuine, bonafide hit song already, I'm thinking the lyrics are fine just the way they are. Not trying to slam you in any way but I will say, if you're doing a cover of a hit song, unless it's actually better than the original, it's gonna be a hard hill to climb. Although there are obviously some people who have never heard the original so try to work that to your advantage.
  17. I bought my Mac for all of my graphic design work never even thinking about recording music. It was only after I realized Garage Band was on there and could record me playing that I started playing guitar again and trying to record music. I know Garage Band isn't all that great but it's what got me started.
  18. Smoking In The Boys Room - Motley Crue
  19. Thunder Road - Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.
