Logic Pro is an easy DAW, so I use it.  Pro 9, includes "Time Stretch" for editing.  Super easy

I failed trying to use any sort of software on PC and Mac.

 

I'd like to get back to a tracker really.

If you like tracker's. Abelton  Live,  Get the lite version.  It's usually free with many hardware devices such as external sound cards.  Yes it is frustrating at first.
