My Dad( Changed Title)

can hear music to this in my head to sad to sing I think . so posted as a poem

 

my dad

 

going up there was a stumble on the stairs

take my arm dad we are almost there

we get to his room he puts his self to bed

I say goodnight dad he just nods his head

as I turn to switch off the light he said goodbye

I hurry from the room so he won't hear me cry

 

my dad

the bravest man I've ever known

my dad

mum left so he raised us on his own

my dad

his shadow is still here

but my dad

my dad's no longer there no longer there

 

in the bedroom where I grew to be a man

I sit at the window head held in my hands

looking at the backyard where we  would play

praying to someone he won't see another day

this may be selfish but I don't pray for me

I pray for the man my dad used to be

 

my dad

the bravest man I've ever known

my dad

mum left so he raised us on his own

my dad

his shadow is still here

but dad's no longer there

 

i wake up next morning  something isn't right

i go to dad's room to find he passed in the night

sitting on his bed i take hold of his hand

say a silent prayer tell him that i understand

the smile upon his face tells me he is free of pain

when I look i see my dad there once again

 

my dad

the bravest man I've ever known

my dad

mum left so he raised us on his own

my dad  his shadow may be  gone

but my heart will keep him here

he was my dad
