Hi Gang

I am happy to hear about variations on the below, or indeed completely different ideas. Whatever your plans and aspirations I would love to hear them!

For the purposes of discussion:

  1. Big Time Famous - A few may have lofty goals of music success, aims of stardom and massive incomes
  2. Career - Some might plan more easily achievable goals of earning a living
  3. Build Listeners - Many want to grow a listener base without earning money at all
  4. Make Recordings Available - Some are just happy to be recording songs and letting people hear recordings
  5. Play Live Only - Some just want to write and perform their songs live
  6. Just Write - Some have no ambition for their music beyond the writing of their songs.
  7. Ghost writer - a hidden writer, writing for other people
  8. Session musician - Paid or unpaid jobbing musician

I appreciate some lyricists may first want to find a collaborator, but then what?

Where do you fall on this spectrum?

I also repeated the question to present realistically what you want and ideally. In other words, what you would be content with and think is achievable versus what you REALLY dream about.

Cheers

John

Obviously I'd love to just write music and do pretty much nothing else.

Everyone's got to dream!

Thanks John. Writing for others is my main goal for now although I may play some folk festivals once in a while.

It wouldn't take me an hour because that's about how long it would take me to fire everybody and get rid of several boondoggle agencies. Then I'd head out to Area 51 and demand to be given the keys to my own flying saucer and a death ray generator. Then, downtown Seattle here I come.

when  I  first    pick   up  a  guitar   after   hearing   music  in  my  head   I  always  thought   that  some  day     some  one  with  a  guitar  could  walk  into  a  recording  studio   and change  every  thing  .44  years  later     the  only  thing  thats   changed  is  I now  think  I  AM  THAT  MAN

HI  JOHN   did  you  get  my   recording   of  jimi   hendrix  is  not  my   name   :hammer:

Make recordings for others to hear, and to do so as excellently as I can learn how to do.

If someone in Nashville hears my song and takes an interest in it, then so much the better.  I'll cross that bridge when and if I get there.  (I'm an hour-and-a-half's drive away ... hint hint ...)

The way I see it is: I would be happy if people listened to my stuff. If they like it enough to want to buy it and listen to it anytime without streaming it everytime, that's cool. If someone wants me to collaborate on or outright join their band/project based on what they heard from my own stuff, even better.
