  1. Well it was the folk-punk of The Levellers that made me love them from age 7/8... Try Skyclad for more melodic (less grunting) folk metal... Violins with an Irish bent make everything better That said, Violins with an orchestral bent can make certain things f**king http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gox6zrcoQI.
  2. Yeah, I think I only changed the first note to A# (making it one of the notes in the chord), so changing the chord to F makes the first note work now, however, the others still don't sound quite right... I'll Have a play and see what I can do... As for powertab editor, things sound funny, but they do sound *right* if they're in key properly, as in it all sounds funny, but not *wrong*... Guitar Pro sounds vastly better (it uses a 'real' sound engine, blatantly NOT real sounding, but good enough to get ideas in order in my head), however it costs money... EDIT: OK, a quick use of the 'tonality' tool suggests that this is in a weird key - it suggests C#minor, but then the F needs all it's notes 'adjusting'... This is probably why it's hard to get it sounding right for me... If it sounds good live then it may be fine, it's just hard to see that certain bits can ever sound good, as they just leap out as wrong as far as I can see... Sadly I lost a lot of patience with this kind of thing after the bassast in my last band appeared to be both tone deaf AND rhythm deficient! Apparently he's got better now, but I now give up very quickly with problems that remind me of him... Lol.
  3. I stuck your tab and chords into powertab editor, and it doesn't sound right to me... Are you strumming the chords, or picking? Cause I'm not convinced that the F#m11 will ever sound very great the way I'm using it!! Lol... I think that maybe changing the bass line a little could help too, the first and third sections (the repeated bits), and the fourth, START with the wrong note for sure, literally just changing those makes an instant improvement to my ears... As has been mentioned elsewhere, posting stuff on here can help (to a degree) with copy right claims, as it works as a form of publishing, and has that all important date stamp... Rohan
  4. One thing not covered there is the little symbols for techniques... In the example tab, for instance, they have two '/' in there, in most tablature this means that you should slide between the notes. That is to say, A--2/3-- means play the second fret on the A string, then slide (change fret without releasing the note, so the tone slides up, instead of instantly changing) to the third fret. Different tabbers use slightly different symbols, but here are a few common ones: '~' = Vibrato (striking the note and then wobbling your finger to make the note quaver) 'x' = dead note or 'Scratch' note (lightly rest your fingers over the strings then strum, it should produce a 'scratch' or 'click' type noise) 'h' or 'p' (as in A--2h3-- or A--3p2--) = hammer on or pull off (strike the first note and then fret the next with enough force and precision to make it sound) Is that clearer, or more confusing?!? Lol! Ask away if there's more, or for better explanations
  5. It's cheap too! I keep being surprised by the things you can do with bamboo - like make clothes! (howies have recently started them...)
  6. I really quite like the idea of yours Prayag Nice one...
  7. I hear good things about Shure mics... But I have no personal experience with anything other than my 'skype' headset...
  8. Now if I could just get my printer working...
  9. Just four I reckon, as it's a first attempt and there's two less strings to think about that way... Also the band I'll most want to try playing along with have a four string

You haven't played it... It sounds good, and I like to play it... Also, it saves me the money and hassle of buying a new one... so BTW, you shouldn't throw anything away any more! Freecycle it first! Then someone will come take it away for you, and make use of it them selves, even if only for spares! I got myself a new printer just last week thanks to Freecycle cardiff Joy!
  11. I have the first link already, thanks, it's partly what inspired me to try saving some money and doing it myself! Hmm, I guess the local dump might be worth a shot, not sure where it is tho Google, AWAY! Failing that, I'll wait til I have a job (i.e. some spare money) and head to the local builders merchants

Here's my fav electric: And my fav acoustic: (I was just gonna upload the one without the flash, but the blemishes that become obvious are part of this axe's charm ) Yup, this guitar has seen some abuse, don;t let toddlers near yours! Lol, unless you have fiber glass resin handy, and an old shirt or two...
  13. Yes. Anyone got any ideas on where I could get hold of some wood for making a lap steel out of? Lol, if I can get some, then I'm gonna be designing and hopefully making, my own lap steel WOO! Any one got tips? Or their own project?
  14. I usually go for very simple and obvious stuff, as I don't have the knowledge to play around much... You'll find (if I ever post my work on here :S) that my 'solos' tend to be based around the exact chord progression I'm using, maybe an octave up (or as i always think of it - 12 frets up!) I believe this is a bad habit I should really break, but as I haven't trained my ear properly, it seems the safest way to ensure I don't slide out of key by accident (I have been known to do this before...) Anyone got some tips for me?
  15. Lol, that sign is well worth that read... I wasn't quite sure where it was going... Classic
  16. Lol, luckily for lazy losers such as myself, there's no need for such things on here... Just make sure that anyone posting how-tos knows that their work is appreciated, and join in the discussion, and it should all go well I think
  17. Personally I got started by learning to sing to very simple songs to play (and sign ideally) - My love of Offspring really helped me out there! Finding a song you can play well easily, and can turn your brain off for is useful, cause then you can think a little more about the singing. Also if you know the song really well, and can sing-a-long to the record, then that helps too, as you know better how the lyrics fit to the music... Sadly, as usual with musical stuff, there's not substitute for hours of practice! Anyone else? Rohan
  18. Oops, just realised I lied a tiny bit there... I have made an animation once, years ago, but accidentally wiped it not long after, and so failed my Art GCSE! lol... Other than that, I'm gonna potentially learn a lot from here, I hope
  19. Here's a good example of at the very least good memory! http://www.collegehumor.com/video:1779055

Ok, cool., thanks for the tip, when he returns I shall try it!
  21. Lies! until you have tried some 'proper' speakers I'll let you off tho I'm sure the quality is good, for a mobile phone but there is no way it could compete with the quality of a decent speaker set... But I'm glad you're getting your ears 'tuned' for bass, once you get the hang of it, you'll find it's easy to have your own inner-EQ setup At least I do....
  22. John mentioned the reason for the low pitch - to give the song more bottom end and fatten up the sound, you might get an idea of how the songs would be by doing the opposite of what you just did, and turn OFF the bass completely (move the sliders to the bottom instead of top). Generally I think how well the bass comes over is down to a) how well it was mixed (whether they engineer turned the bass up enough) and what sound system you listen on... So, what speakers do you have? Have you got a sub woofer? Cause either a decent set of speakers (with bass and treble capabilities) or a 'proper' set with a sub woofer (which is just a big fat bass only speaker really) will help the bass standout more than if you only have cheap 2.0 (just the treble speakers) - they just don't do bass justice! Something I would really recommend doing is getting hold of some decent quality speakers if you really wanna enjoy, and maybe even record some of your own music... Ideally for recording you want to get monitors, but unless you wanna produce really top quality stuff, they're unnecessary expense for now really. Wow, I'm starting to sound knowledgeable! Quick someone chime in and point out where I'm wrong, or it might go to my head
  23. Yeah, Chili's have great bass lines too, I knew I was forgetting someone obvious... Glad you found it For a quite different to usual use of bass (I believe) try listening to some ska as well, as ska music tends to have 'walking' bass lines, which sound great, and then generally very simple off-beat guitar, so it's almost reversing the usual way of doing things... Glad to be of assistance Gave me the inspiration to play some bass as well, so thanks to you too
