  1. I usually start singing with guitar, I have some kind of riff going and then try singing with it. I don't have much problem with melody that way, something comes up and I change it up until I like the outcome. Kinda similar approach as finding riff on the guitar. Sometimes I write lyrics as I sing with the music, otherwise I write lyrics first and then I either have an idea of how I want to sing it or more often I just use the lyrics I have with some music that I've written.

    Tuners

I have Korg GA-30 tuner. There's one thing I don't like about it - it only tunes to standard tuning. Although there are two buttons that I never used on it, I could just be dumb. Other than that it works great and has been working for years. Haven't had to change the battery yet. I also really like Boss pedal (white) tuner. Oh yeah, there's another really cool tuner I saw my friend has. I don't know what it's called, but it's a small clip-on one and it has really nice bright colors! I would like to get one of those sometime. Korg GA-30 is not colorful like that.
  3. I pretty much agree with everything said. Theory is definitely a plus. And the biggest plus, like you guys said, is communicating with other musicians. But there are many more advantages. Anything you learn is an advantage anyway. On the other hand, I think it's important to have fun playing, which to me is more important than theory. That may not a good comparison, both are important of course. And a little theory can go a long way.
  4. This happened to me more than once. Usually with new songs. I try to just make something up, which actually worked well once. One time I just played the verse instrumental. People noticed that I messed up because I started singing but then didn't. They just cheered me up and it turned out ok. I was able to finish the song. I guess the important thing is to not stop playing. There's lots of stuff that goes wrong, not just lyrics. It seems every time I play there's some kind of problem. One time as I was playing a song, the microphone was slowly falling down. In the middle of the song I had to stop to pick it up.
  5. Ivor Cutler is the best! I love it. Thank you, Rudi.
  6. I have a Korg SP-170S. It's great for what I wanted and for the price, although there are many small problems with it. I think they're all probably equally good, with different features and different flaws. I just don't have the other ones. I would love to have a Kurzweil PC3X. Some amazing sounds there.
  7. Some of you guys have way too many guitars, lol! When I'm rich I'll get a few more. My first guitar, the one and only. Also, the best guitar in the world (because it's mine). Silvertone. Got it for $100 at Hastings.
  8. Since my band broke up I've been recording more on my own, trying to figure out some things with DAW. I do this for several reasons, for one thing I wanted some halfway decent recordings. I put them out on soundcloud occasionally. Another reasons is learning how to use the program, which has been helpful, I learned quite a bit. I know that I will need professional studio recordings, just not right now. I don't promote much, mostly I just show friends on facebook. I don't think it's important now, because they're not professional recordings and I don't have all the instruments, it's just me. My plan mostly is to play shows with a band, possibly make amateur album to give out to people, and then record band in professional studio.
  9. I've been playing hardcore for a year - I mean like a lot of hours. My fingers still hurt all the time, but it's usually when I play longer, like more than 2-3 hours at a time. Plus it gets worse if I don't play for a while and then come back to it. Acoustic guitars with metal strings also are more painful than my electric guitar. And it's not just fingers, it works with all the hurtful places on different techniques, you really just have to practice every technique all the time for the pain to subside. How do I deal with it? I just ignore it until it hurts so much that I can't play anymore. Music requires sacrifice I guess.
  10. I love guitar solo on Joy Division - Shadowplay
