  1. Hey Most electronic kits have a midi out, so alternatively, record the midi output from the kit, sample the drums individually, or use another sample library. This allows you to edit thr drum line easily! The drums are already recorded in an electronic kit, or simply generated from a synth, so there is little advantage in actually recording the output of the kit unless you are really into the sound of a particular kit. In that case sample it as above, unless there are samples of it already available. Cheers John
  2. Anyone else? Come on you lot! Get cross linking... Cheers John
  3. Come on you lot! Get with it...
  4. Hey Hari Nice one! Thanks! btw. If you use an image as a link, think about a text link as well as some search engines don't rank image links... Cheers John
  5. Hey Check out my new links page: John Moxey Links There are several artists from Songstuff listed... Come on you lot. Cross link! Cheers John

  8. Hey I'm up for it. I already have Finn listed. I'll add you later today and Mail you, though it would be better for all to keep it all on the boards rather than mail. Cheers John
  9. Hey Any of got any advice on upgrading a Win 98 music PC to a Win XP system? The system in question has 2 Creamware soundcards, and runs Sonar. Cheers John
  10. Hey Hari Nice one. I missed this when you posted.... Interesting stuff! Cheers John
  11. Laptop dude. Still I could have got one of those new fangled wide-screen ones...
  12. Hey Anyone have any tips for microphones/mic placement/eq/compression etc for recording acoustic hand drums? I'm planning on recording some bodhran... Cheers John
  13. Hey Hari Looks good, though your page width is maybe too large for a splash screen. I had to scroll to see the whole page, which isn't ideal. If the entry page wasn't just a splash it'd be ok. Remember: cross link all your artist pages. It'll help your link popularity. Try to make more of the images for albums on the top right. They're just kinda stuck there. Hope this helps. Cheers John
  14. Did you sort something out hari?
  15. Hey Doru I'm very sorry to hear this. Sad news. John
  16. Hey Hari Songstuff is hosted with oneandone (.com, .co.uk). For several years they have been voted Europes No.1 Web host. About 2 years ago they launched US based hosting too. Check their packages, but they will handle purchasing and maintenance of domains, and there are web development packages available to get you started. I've been with them for 5 or so years with no real problems, which is more than you can say for most hosts. Cheers John
  17. Excellent! I look forward to hearing the tracks! How many do you plan to do? So, how about some studios tips for Alistair?
  18. To keep it simple I was going to use them as outboard synths, though I did think of using ones as an outboard effects processor.
  19. Hey I thought I'd resurrect this thread and see if any new members wanted to discuss their set up. Or for that matter, previous posters might want to give an update. Me? Nothing new resording wise. Just some extra storage (another hard drive for my sampler), oh yeah, I got hold of a couple of P2 450 PCs that I intend using as basic synths using a Creative AWE 32 and a Soundblaster Live! I have kicking about. Still to set them up though... Cheers John
  20. Hari has it right. You should also be able to issue a midi reset, which is effectively an all notes off message. If you want to close the loop to play midi sounds, make sure you turn local to off.
  21. Hey Kriss Hmmm. There can be many reasons. I guess sometimes we know that the kind of things we write about are either so personal that we don't want to perform them or that we really fear that people will just not relate to them. Sometimes the apparently free and flexible rules of poetrry writing lend themselves more to the emotions we are trying to express, than the more rigid forms you tend to find in much contemporary music. I've had similar phases, but they pass. Quite often a much more diluted song or two will emerge from a poetry phase. It's a good thing. It lets you experiment far more, with less rules to contraion you. When I have found my lyrics a bit stale and samey, writing poems for a while is a good way to kick start my creativity in a more adventurous way. I would say that if you find yourself expressing a lot of dark thoughts it can be difficult to write something more positive without it being cheezy. That could just be me though I doubt it ! Still it is definately worth trying to write something positive to help give you balance and keep your perspective fresh. So for example, where you write a love song was is sad, try writing another one that celebrates the joy of love to balance it. Cheers John
