    Akai Links

Hi Have you checked out the songstuff Akai links? Any suggestions? Comments? Cheers John
  9. Hi Rod I use Sonar 1.x. Th first release was a little buggy, particularly with softsynths. Not exactly intuitive how you use them. The patches fixed most bugs. I haven't tried 2.0 yet, but I hear it's pretty good. I'm a long time cakewalk user, and I did like most of the feature adds from cakewalk 8 (the previous version I used). All in all I'm quite happy... Cheers John

    s2800 woes...

Hi Paul You could always post more... Did you check the songstuff akai links? Cheers John
  11. Hi David Ok, I play multiple instruments. I started piano aged 4 (36 now), violin aged 7, drums aged 11, bagpipes (yes bagpipes) at about 12, guitar 14, then onto a number of others including mandolin, bodhran and didgeridoo, and for my sins I've been singing since aged 9 in choirs and as a lead singer since about 19. I've been writing music since age 11, lyrics since about 13. I worked for a few years as a musician and as a sound engineer. I have an honours degree in electronics and music. I've played in orchestras, pipe bands, and bands of various kinds. I have written music for corporate videos, other artists and lots for myself. I have produced several artists (which is fun), and somewhere I find the time to run Songstuff! I have my own studio now and occasionally get to use it! Is this enough, or should I go on? ;D If you want to hear some tunes I've recorded, then you can hear them at www.mp3.com/BibiM We got lots of rave reviews on this (I did the music and some backing vocals) and were featured on the BBC radio 1 site. Only 3 tracks are available now on mp3 directly. Some of the other tracks are available on various mp3 stations.
  12. Hi All Go on. Post. I've never met a guitarist short of something to say yet! Maybe you're all shy... Cheers John

    Question

    Thanks Nightwolf...
  15. Hi Guess the one who got me first was Jimmy Page, followed closely by Paul Kossof and Stephen Stills. Hendrix was probably the most influential in the early days of my playing. It was so loose and flowing. After that I got more into songwriting and the focus of guitar playing changed quite alot. The styles I tend to play now are varied but I can see some element of the early influences on my own established guitar style. Not much, but some. In fact, I tend to mainly play acoustic guitar now so there's not much chance for Crosstown Traffic to creep in! So, what's your story? Cheers John

    Buy Guitar FX...

    Hi Didier Thanks! John
  22. Hey Tom Do you perform a spectral analysis on the finished track before applying final mix compression? Basically, apart from carefully applying any compression to individual tracks the mix can cause spikes at particular frequencies. You need to identify these peaks (Use Wavelab or similar). Before you get to this stage you should plan your mix and apply EQ so that instruments fit into a known frequency range. This way you can manage the mix better and reduce the amount of unforeseen peaks. Overall this means that the instruments in the mix will have better clarity and separation, without necessarily boosting their overall volume. there's an article in the features section on EQ, and compression and an EQ reference giving some suggestions on different instruments and frequency ranges. Hope this helps, or at least starts you off... Cheers John
  23. Hi Tom I would have to say I'm really happy with my NT2. Well worth a look and not too expensive. I've been using it for about a year. The vocals on Miserable Girl were recorded with it www.mp3.com/BibiM if that's any use. Cheers John
