  1. I am so going to try and get that Nilsson film, thanks for the heads up
  2. You know this is very similar to DJ'ing. It always appears that experienced DJ's know what they're doing, but that's a big variable. A resident DJ of a club may find a setlist that works and if you go every night or week, it's repetitive, bringing in a few new sounds to keep it interesting over a month. But at it's core, he knows certain songs will light up the energy. A floating DJ will have a few energy songs but the rest of the set will be determined on the night, due to reaction. Some DJ's who've managed to make a name have a setlist and play it regardless, as people will dance to whatever they play, their hardcore fans, which will get others going. The wedding DJ doesn't care, he knows he'll play what at what time with requests mixed in. So as Tom says, audience participation and reaction will be key based on where you're playing and which night. People want to live it up on a Friday while maybe they want to be entertained on a Wednesday. I think it's a good thing to have 2 or 3 good 'uns that are varied to kick off, and gauge the reaction of each, but hook them in early. It's hard to sell them with a good song halfway through the set. Let us know how you go on.
  3. I'd maybe look at how some of the greats do their acoustic sets such as on MTV Unplugged .... eg
  4. I can't wait to begin this journey with you I'm your 1st and No.1 follower of your blog "Let's Boogaloo" (in my house, that means let's go, just sounds better to say it this way ) ps - 'hire' a lawyer (oopsie)
  5. Erm......... maybe You shouldn't have any problem just saying this out loud in a normal voice to approx 80bpm: They say you are what you see in the mirror Does anybody got a mirror? Then do the same: They say you are only as deep as your deepest layers Does anybody know how to find my layers? Where did the beat that was 'mirror' in the 1st set, 1st line drop in the 2nd set of lines, 1st line? I might get to 'your' at best. That means you've got to say 'deepest layers' very quick, meaning now I don't know what your saying because you're not clear That ok?
  6. I know this isn't about critique - but the help required is genuine and I know you guys should be able to respond with useful advice more so than elsewhere on the forums
  7. They don't say these where I'm from
  8. Erm, answers to my take on your lyric rhythm? My lyrics there were done really quick, not saying they're any good, but hopefully, said with attitude, you hear some anger?
  9. Hiya I managed to hear the beat, and maybe I'm reading the lyric too slow, trying to time a line in with the rhythm of the bars, but for a title of aggression, it doesn't sound angry at all. So am I getting this right? Intro begins 0.21 ?? Into the "hating me is as simple...." around 0.29/0.30 mark ?? The 1st two lines cover 0.30 - 0.35, yes? Just so I can get the tempo of the lyric. I don't find your words express anger, and I don't mean I want to hear more profanity, I want to know what's causing the anger, how it makes you feel, what it makes you want to do. Feels like you're just calling people names. So rethink and write down all the words to do with anger, where does anger come from, how does it manifest, how do these apply to you. they thought they'd wipe us out but we made them lose their gains we took their money their honey and sucked out all of their brains I can't be doin' with no I'm a wise ass who knows everything but in case you still got your head stuck up your ass, let me explain don't need no jumped up I'm in charge telling me how to tie my shoes I'll push your nose into your brain and then lets see who really looks the fool I ain't your tool and your not cool and I ain't never gonna play by your rules the pigeon's flown and we have grown and we will make it better without you Just a quick kick off, a lead in Oh, and I moved the beats video so it's easier to read the lyrics with
  10. Hopefully someone who can read this will help. I hope they can
  11. I can't get to youtube at the moment - sorry
  12. If you're not going to write about this anymore, why did you post it? This is a community for dialogue and learning. So are you saying if I give you my opinion, you won't respond?

  14. Well I guess there's a lot more help for using FLS on youtube ref beats. I took a quick look and the tuts for Audacity did not seem hip-hop minded
  15. Add the link (not the share video link) of the youtube beat - help us know how you got what from where Help on software, that's another topic in another forum here - http://forums.songstuff.com/forum/93-software/ Be aware, folks do not take kindly to warez etc. You may do better learning Audacity as 1 - it's free & 2 - it accepts a lot of plugins etc and so is used by a lot of folks.
  16. Hey, for a rap lyric, and rap music isn't my biggie, I like this, I can read this, get into it. A couple of places, I think in the last verse, you drifted off a little, but on the whole, good stuff. I like that you didn't use profanity just for the sake of it, that you used it to show how angry and frustrated you feel at the moment of using it. What do you think is wrong with the hook? And would this be sung or still spoken? I'm going to leave the other rappers here to put in hook ideas first
  17. Yes Tom, haven't watched that for a while, need to dig that back out Going to try and watch Stax later TMike, thanks for the recommendations.
  18. Just the Theme Tom, not a whole episode
  19. I guess my not knowing, it was all new to me, so it didn't come off that way for me. I got caught up in the emotional state he was in after Nirvana, trying to redefine who is was by being upfront of a band and all the hassles of band members coming and going etc, but out of all of that, he created a successful band. Like I said, I really enjoyed Back & Forth
  20. I've got that to see yet Dave, thanks for the reminder One I do want to recommend, but can't recall the title, is the Foo Fighters documentary from a few years back. About how Foo Fighters began etc, after Nirvana. It was really open about the bands inhouse fighting etc. It's one of my favourite music docu's actually This style of docu I really enjoy, because maybe I'm not keen on the genre or band from what I've heard, but these docu's get me inside the band and I change my perception. Forgive my ignorance but until I watched 'that' docu, I had no idea who Dave Grohl was (head stuck in Jazz/Blues/Old RnB/Doo-Wop/Classical/Swing/Soul/etc) Thanks for the reminder again
