  1. not sure if this will help you but it you post this quetsion here you will get a great fully explained answer.... ok dont be annoyed by this but seeing as you are cakewalk user goto......(another forum) www.cakewalk.com/forum there is loads of places here depending on what software you use....this is more of a technical site. hope it helps.... i couldn't live without it as i use sonar and it can be a pain in the ass!!!
  2. hi this might be a usefull link to some.... few tips from the big guns in recording http://emusician.com/mag/emusic_mixing_str...pros/index.html
  3. my guitar is about 14 years old and although a little worse for wear would not swap it for anything. If it works dont change it..... i did struggle to find nice strings though. that didn't buzz on the bridge.....
  4. I love the sound of a washburn acoustic.... depends how much you want to spend...... i have got a second hand nuno bentencout one that cost £200... plyas like a dream.... But for around 300-400 you can get a great sounding acoustic.. Depends on your price rang really
  5. it a pretty sturdy capo..... the reason i prefere those to the ties around ones is basically ease of use. when playing an acoustic gig it is coming on and off every other song and is very quick to apply.
  6. I have just finised recording my acoustic album and this would not have been possible without a capo. what i love about the capo is that i get the 2nd acoustic player to play normal open chords i play them somewhere else on the neck using a capo.... makes a real nice blend.... some chords would not be feasable to play without the capo....... i dont think of it as cheating... my capo http://www.stringsdirect.co.uk/Catalogue/V...x?productId=509
  7. We use a DAW. Sonar 3 pod xts. Bass Vamp. Roland drum kit. Joe Meek pre amp and AKG c4000b mic. Not a studio more of a pc in the corner of my bedroom
  8. there are some great firewire and USB sound cards around these days. It takes alot of processor power away using an external card. We use the edirol fa101 and m-audio 18/14. Both are crystal clear and both around the £300 mark you are getting great value for money. The only thing is because there are so clear they sometimes make other pieces of kit sound bad as you start hearing things you couldn't on the sound blaster!!
  9. Hi John...... the most important part is getting the signal correct at the start. If you get good hot signals things are a lot easier to approach when mixing. When we are mixing a full song with drums etc.... we start mixing the drums. then get good seperation between the bass guitar and kick drum. Then play with the guitars. Then go for the vocals. Building up tends to give you a good platform to work with then you have the abilitly to tweak with eq each instrument and get panning etc once you have a fuller mix to work with.... thats how we do it anyway..
  10. If you can get a good siganl source a few tweaks of effects can go along way. Use compression to keep the vocals nice a level. Add a touch of reverb to wet the signal. With reverb i use it so if you take it out you notice but with it in you dont!! also use a little eq to allow seperation and to fill it out. If you have software effects use this post recording..
  11. Sorry didn;t get across what i meant.... i used used the sound blaster cards for a about 1 year. It does record pretty well and we have got some fantastic results out of it. But the AD - DA convertors aren't anywhere near that of a bottom of the range pro card. You can only tell the difference in cards once you move up a level. then you cant go back... Plus the soundblaster range doesn't record at true 24 bit.
  12. If you are in the band - i wouldn't go personally. Get someone to go for you. Having a manager or even a pretend manager. Looks more pro if you have someone representing you
  13. CD - at least two tracks. Preferrably in packaging.. ie. not on a cd with your band name scribble on. What worked well for us is having a printed disk with all info on...so our cd has band name/contact/website address email and track listings and logo. You can fit a lot on to a cd plus if the case gets mixed up they have all details on the cd One page biog with photo. Include reviews. Always address it to someon, dont just send to a mailbox.
  14. Sound blasters are gaming cards... they are ok. but for the same price or even less you can get better recording cards.... Bottom end m-audio will beat the sound blaster hands down. I grew out of my sound blaster card very quickly
