  1. replace the battery and you should get the bios factory default settings back and it should be like normal. Unless of course you actually made any bios settings which will need to be re done.
  2. that looks pretty good..although its free to download. its not free to use!
  3. I think its very hard to advertise new tracks/album release etcs, mainly due to crappy myspace. Everyone with a pc and a microphone now records and everybody want everybody to hear their music. Its all got very saturated... when stuff like myspace started it was cool to hear new bands but now theres no point most of it aint worth listening to just down to sheer volume of artists out there. I have a new album coming out and i am lost at how i am going to advertise it. I bought the unsigned book with loads of contacts etc. I am going to go back to mailing out albums than exclusively using the internet.
  4. Internet radios are a good place to start and podcasts. Dan sent me a list of places that played tracks from our pilfa album.... there were loads we seem to be on everyday someone in the world (podcast that is)..................just a shame we dont get roylaties!
  5. bizzare thing to do but i have done this.. Open a window where the wind blows past and not into. Just record the wind as it sails past.
  6. i have read a hell of a lot of posts regarding issues with all of the EMU cards. They are basically a flashy version of the soundblaster card. From the reviews i have seen regarding compatability problems i would steer clear. If you search the www.cakewalk.com/forum you will find lots of info about issues with them. I have been a user of m-audio for some time and for price against value they are one of the better cards on the market. I would recomend the firewire card as i have used them for a few years now and been impressed with the results but i see you dont have that on your laptop. So i would at least look into the usb 2.0 break out boxes that do. here is a link m-audio Just stick away from the EMU cards IMO.
  7. What way do you find most productive to start writing a song? Do you start with a song concept? Do you start with lyrics? Melody? Rhythm? Generally i just sit down play the guitar and see what comes out. I never really head into song writing with the idea in my head of what it will end up as. Occasionaly i will write a piece based on whether i want it to be up beat or down beat etc depending on where this song will appear on the album. I recently wrote the last song on the album full well know that i was writing it for that pupporse. Only time i have ever done that though. Do you have a common way of developing your original idea? For me i record once i have got say three or four parts ready. I lay the drums down and put down the acoustic guitar from start to finish. Its at this point where a song may end up going fully rocking out or stay as just acoustic. On many of my recordings the originally recorded acoustic never made it to the mix. so something that starts as just something soft has ended up being a full rock song. At what point do you start recording? I am lucky enough to have a lot of resources available to me to create very pro sounding 'demos' in my room. Because of this i take advantage of it. So like i say once i have the parts in my head created i can start recording straight away. Drums go down. mic up the acoustics get them recored. Record bass. At this point i pick up the telecaster and take the song away from just an acoustic song. Vocals all come once this is finished. The scary thing about this is thinking how i used to do it......write a song and not record it for months if at all.... i generally record work fast now just so i dont forget my ideas. If i lost this way of working that i am used to now i would struggle i think to produce any tunes. The technology has moulded my way of working!
  8. sometimes do anyway. When i am in the song writing mode my guitar goes everywhere with me and its played 24/7 when i am not and no gigs coming up it can easily be weeks and weeks before i pick it up again. I hate to play the guitar unless i am writing.

  10. open g is a nice one. DGDGBD
  11. easiest way is using a compressor unit before you record. So MIC - PRE AMP - COMPUTER. If you get this right you should not have to do much once its recorded. With compressors you want quick attack times to stop the peaks but long release times so its stays even. If you can record like this, you should have some compressor in cubase or you should at least be able to find a free one that should allow you to stablalise the take. Its always better to get a clean signal to start with as opposed to cleaning up a bad signal with plugins. Last resort if you cant do the above. Learn how to pull away from the mic when singing loud
  12. http://cwenc.sourceforge.net/ download the above. Its a free tool for converting any wave to mp3.
  13. www.myspace.com/timpilfa this is my new band. No vocals yet but there will be soon. Rocking Country!!!
  14. i upgraded from a mini disk hard disk recorded to a pc. With a pc i dont think you will ever be out of date in regards to mp3 and wavs. already my hard disk recorder is now made and if it broke thats it, i cant buy a new ones to play the tunes on. You will always be able to open mp3s and wavs for ever... take the old arcade games etc... you can stll play them on the PC because people have written the emulator to do so. If mp3s became obselite you would still find someway of accessing them. I tried to put my mate of buying a unit like yours for a pc. Although the recording quality is good the lifetime and the abiltiy to upgrade is just not there. For 500 pounds you can easily get a great pc for recording. I think most units will disapear from the market over the next few years. Remote recording can be done much better now on a laptop and external soundcard
  15. i cant logon at work anymore so can hardly get on. Dan is whoring himself over on myspace.com these days.
  16. you can never go wrong with Joe Meek.
  17. Took me a while to find my feet, but this year i have just found my style and just increased my ability on the guitar enough to open up a new world of songs. I think thats why this year has gone so well for me.
  18. 20 so far this year. all recorded and finished as well. Been a productive year for me
  19. this is mine. Dunno what it is. D with an f sharp ---------- | | | | | | ----------- x | | x | | ----------- | | | | x | -----------
  20. i have worked three ways in putting lyrics to music. first one sing la la bla bla etc along and just work out the medlody and then every so often changing the la la to a word etc. This way is a general quick way of getting lyrics in. But you end up with a song thats lyrics aren't that well thought out. Or i write a piece of music and work damm hard on fitting liyrics in at any cost because thats what i want the song to say. Or jsut start signing the lyrics you have in front of you and start strumming your guitar finding the notes that fit.
  21. This site is excellent. Might already know about it, but thought i would post anyway! http://www.guitarshredshow.com/
  22. That something to think about i never knew that. One tip i would give about tuning is tuning at the 12th fret as well as open and make sure they match. On too many times i have laid solo's down where they are slightly off due to the intonation being out.
  23. Just so you know. This album will not be finished this side of christmas. We are hoping to release it January. Currently being mixed at the moment over in Mexico. And we cant proceed with printing until thats done and printing will take 4-6 weeks.....
  24. i have recored electronic drums a few times.... because its a stereo out from the whole kit. Practise with the sounds to make sure everything sits nice as you cant make the snare louder later on. Also the drummer has to be spot on.... Electronic kits dont hide any out of time parts.... and you cant snap beats to be spot on
  25. Why should i have not said that?? I just wanted to make it clear i had not bought this item and just made myself a copy then trying to sell the original....
