  1. it's got line in and line out, so I can only assume this would be stereo. BS
  2. Spotted this little beastie for £36 on eBuyer. It's a 256Mb MP3 recorder/player, with line and USB I/O. http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/in...oduct_uid=81588 It's hardly gonna be pro quality, but could be OK as a sketchpad... BS
  3. Folks, Anyone else tried this card? I think mine is faulty and it's going back. Seems to always record a few crisp ( that's CHIP ) bags that I can never remember adding. The supplier is actually out of stock of any replacements and is suggesting an M-Audio Audiophile 2496 instead. Specs look pretty much the same. Whaddyathink? BS
  4. 1Tb/s 2nm wireless ear implants that inject full bandwidth audio directly into your brain's aural receptors, tuned by thought alone. BS
  5. Yeah I've seen this and a few others. Seems like a natural evolution to me. One trick I think they're missing though is using the GPRS bandwidth to download new music in the background, iTunes stylee. BS
  6. Is that like a "non-U" soundsystem? ( old 90's joke ) BS
  7. Yeah it's really mixing I'm getting at. Don't think there's much more than destructively ctrl-M'ing . I'm gonna try and use CuBase for this kind of thing I think! Cheers, BS
  8. Folks - does SoundForge support this - I know I can do ctrl-M to mix 2 files together but I need more control e.g. if I've just done 3 mixes and I want to reduce the level of all 3...? BS
  9. The english demo sounds a bit like "Steven Hawkins sings Karaoke" to me... : BS
  10. Was it "what is 7 times 6"? But in truth - if you are a pro or semi pro musician, you just can't rely on hacked software to deliver. Imagine the scenario - you've been working for 4 weeks solid on a TV package. A 30 second mix. A 1 minute mix. A couple of "stabs". An extended "radio edit" and a half dozen signature hits to accompany an advertising promo. All tweaked to perfection. Sounds f***ing brillliant!!! OK, it gets to delivery time and your warez introduces a tiny glitch in the CD you've just burned. Normally because it's just for peronsal use, you wouldn't really bother. BUT now because the client pays your rent/mortgage/food they're just gonna say they can't use it, and not pay you. You burn again. Slight crackle in the 4th minute. Unacceptable for broadcast. You lose the contract. Where do you stand now? Hungry?! Warez is fine ( at best ) for messing around - but if you ever want to get serious about your music - forget it. BS
  11. Yeah John's your man there....PHP has been superceded in the commercial world by technologies such as JSP, Struts and JSF....but still popular on smaller scale sites....so I can't help you dude... Of course if you want to get a Tomcat server up and running then I'd be only to happy to help. BS
  12. 2nd that. If it's a track you don't need to sync to anything else then just let the performer roll. BS
  13. Hey thanks dudes...all bookmarked for closer scrutiny... BS
  14. Any good suggestions for tech kit - apart from Dolphin Music? BS
  15. Hey man I'm still a Euro-friendly CuBase user - just got SL3.0 after much hassling of the Steinberg support chaps. Cakewalk? That's the old DOS program isn't it? BS
  16. Thanks for all the replies everyone. My friend's short of ££££s for upgrades, so has just gone back to running the packages individually ie. using Reason to generate his "main" track, then importing into Sonar. I've just been over to see him - and that works fine - his music is quite "minimal" so doesn't chew up a lot of CPU or RAM. Definitely ReWire the resource hog... Power. BS
  17. Micros**t never fail to amuse me. They release bad engineered, buggy, insecure software on the world and then try and profit from these failings! BS
  18. With irony - i agree! I don't use any pirate software of any kind. But I have friends that laugh at me spending time on the phone to unhelpful support people ( e.g. Steinberg ) trying to get a legit upgrade when my pirate pals have already been using it for weeks before me... Why bother? My arguments are running out BS
  19. Thanks for the info guys. Strange thing is - it's only when ReWire is switched on that this happens. As I say, both packages can run individually, in parallel, without a problem. But I guess ReWire might be the CPU eater. So off to see the bank manager for my mate then! BS
  20. Folks, A mate of mine has a decent enough PC ( modern Celeron - not sure exactly which clock speed, 256Mb RAM, WinXP ) which runs these packages individually in parallel without problem. However, when he hooks them together with ReWire, the CPU usage goes through the roof and the system basically becomes unusable. This is even with a minimum amount of simple VSTi's in use. Any ideas? Does he just need a P4 with 512Mb? Or is the ReWire implementation on Sonar buggy? BS
  21. I think the easiest trick to getting a good mix is to be sure to test it on different monitor setups e.g. main amp/monitors, nearfields, then on some hifi speakers, then say on some cheapo PC speakers, then convert to a low-bandwidth mono format and try that too. Make notes on each mix then go back to the drawing board - or mixing desk - and make some fine adjustments...repeat until they all sound good... BS
  22. Ah - another Linux user! Windows sucks my hairy ass. Do you do any music on Linux? BS
  23. Well actually the twin carry-oakey sounds a bit complex. I've got an old ansafone which I'm sure I could setup much more simply... Current thought is to start off with a simple PCI EMU or Terratec and see how it goes. A lot of it will be me getting "into" things like CuBase SL and, hell, coming up with some new ideas!! I'll keep y'all posted on my progress. My studio room will be another 2 weeks in the decorating phase though. I do however need to purchase a coupla other things ( doncha love that word need ?? ). Like active monitors and probably a "main" software synth... BS
