contact an electrician and have him sort your problem out before frying your nuts.
Very good advice! Is it possible it could be the computer fan? If you record a hum in the background, it will only increase in volume if you bounce tracks, etc.

I guess the best options are going to be something from Cubase or Cakewalk. Both do entry level applications aimed at the budget concieous. And both are superb! A good all round mic would be a Sure sm58, then increase the ram, processor and hard drive and you'll be flying!

Completely off the subject but why is there no photo on my posts?

na. Too many loose machine heads rattling about! Besides! Where would I get a set of 9 strings?
-
... a 9 string guitar! I would have the three lower strings, E, A, D, double to get that nice strummy 12 string effect, whilst leaving the top three strings for some solo guitaring should it be required! What do you think?

Lol, funny you mention that Steve! *sniggers*
Other than that I'd like a nice bass... I I've been purposefully avoiding looking into which one in particular as if I get one in mind I'll start looking on eBay,
Lol, funny you mention that Rohan! I bought a nice Bass on eBay for 50 quid!

Nucleus Soundlab offers a lot of their products in soundfont format. Great sounding waveforms and such and not too expensive.

Thanks Steve. I'll go have a look!

Hasn't it always been so? I remember when I was at school, nearly everybody I knew had a guitar! (except me! ) If I went to a party, there was always somebody there with a guitar. And always more than a few ready to entertain with a song! I don't think this is anything new.

hammersounds.net & soundfonts.it have some interesting stuff, but they're mostly instruments .sf2 files, rather than GM mapped sets. Worth checking out. Also, the redoubtable KVR.com has a soundfont "master list" in their forum. Quite a few broken links but also worth looking at. I hope this helps...
Yeh thanks retro. I'll take a look.

What type of soundfonts are you looking for?
Not sure4. I'd like to get a good GM set. But I'd have a go at anything interesting!

Hey
it prompts me to register to see it, and wants a us zip code to do so.
Cheers

It's because you're Scottish.

Do you work for EMI? Careful before you answer that! EMI news.

I was quite surprised, and more than a little pleased! to see that soundfonts are still being used. I recently picked up a cheap Creative Xfi soundcard, and started looking for a decent gm soundfont! There are hundreds out there and the business seems to be flourishing! Anybody else using soundfonts? What do you think of them? Can you recommend a good GM set?

What's prompted this outburst Thom? Sounds like a rip off to me!

I've got a lovely Boss GT5 for sale. Ask Rudi how good it is!

Tom Morello, Who else has come up with a guitar solo using the cable jack as a pick?!? (If someone else has, please tell me!
).
Is Tom still using that old 'cable jack as a pick' technique I taught him? Good old Tom...

I want to be able to play my keyboard and hear the sounds I'm playing. When I've tried this in the past, I've always had a problem with latency! Although I do now have a better computer, I would still worry about this problem. If you have outboard kit, no problem!
