  1. ha ha ha! Midi is just like the postman. You send a letter, The postman delivers it. Thats what Midi is! You play some notes on a keyboard (Write the letter) and send what you've played to Sibelius. (The postman delivers) If you want a reply, You need to set the program to send back the data you've put in. Otherwise it will send out that data to whatever is the default, probably your soundcard! Somewhere on there, one of the menus on the top bar, is an option to return the midi message. i.e. I use Sonar. On the top bar I have a menu item marked Options, when chosen, I can click on Midi Devices, and I get this!

Where I can choose which Midi device I want! In this case, it's a choice between two soundcards, and a virtual Soundset. That's because my keyboard doesn't make any sounds.

Give it another go Jim. You might have to look under Preferences or Options on one of the menus. Sibelius is one of the top Software applications. It's worth persuing!

  2. Yeah, I gave up. The software is too old and the synth is too new. Just another reason to not deal with computers and music...;>)

^_^ Come on Jim! Even the oldest software should do what you want it to! If you played into the program and notes appeared on the stave, then all you need to do is make sure that when it plays back, it plays back through your synth! There should be an option on one of the menus to select 'Midi Out' , then you just need your synth plugged in to some form of amp! (With the volume up)

  3. Most illuminating.

I have never restrung a guitar like that. I have certainly never cut the old strings off.

This seems like a better way actually. I might try it meself.

How about a follow up one for a Floyd-Rose system guitar? :)

I'll need to get a new hacksaw blade first. :)

  4. I write, paint, build, and do all manner of things that are creative. I have a need to create! That's why I don't get too bothered if I don't write a song for months, even years! Because I always have some other way of creating something! :)

  5. I don't think being in an extreme of emotion makes us write better songs. I think it helps us write more emotional songs. Writing a good song is down to hard work and knowledge, more than emotion. Having a 'mental illness' or a 'mental disability' could and apparently does help some focus on certain creative outlets. The most famous person I can think of in this creative field would be Stephen Wiltshire. A quite phenominal artist!

  6. One more thing tho, just because I haven't posted on the boards in weeks does'nt mean I haven't been popping in to see whats going on from time to time... lets not just jump to conslusions and assume, afterall that sort behaviour can get you into trouble! ...tsk, tsk, tsk

Did you see any advertising on this forum anywhere while you were popping in and out? No? Then why 'assume' you can be the exception! If you want to join in and make some kind of contribution here, feel free! The 'smartass' replies were from genuinely outraged members. All very good songwriters, but you'd know that from popping in and reading their posts wouldn't you? If you have a businees that you want to get off the ground, I wish you the best of luck! (Honestly!) But you need to work on your PR some! It sucks.

  7. If the 50 year rule is enforced, who gains?

I've only heard reports of this on the radio. I haven't encountered any full page ads, having given up reading 'news' papers during the Falklands war. So I can only comment on what I've heard and Cliff was certainly very vocal about his pension fund dilemma! Poor bastard!
