I enjoy writing song lyrics to melodies and or rythyms I whistle.  The melodies are usually inspired by parts of songs I find peculiar and because I am terrible at whistling they usually become something new. This is where lyrics come to mind and then it all becomes something new that I couldn't begin to say what may have inspired it originally.  Sometimes after I read what I wrote I find it quite embarrassing but for whatever reason don't mind letting it all hang out there. I tend to write from a perspective that I think someone might find usuable.
