A hello from Praestabilis Music

Hello Musicians and readers,

 

As a drummer/musician going by the artist name Praestabilis I have uploaded last year some of my music to Spotify and other streaming sites via Distrokid.  I closed my account however, because Spotify does not grant much royalties per stream. Not that I am interested in earnings but just to share some of my music to a wider audience without the need for a label contract etc...

My main styles include jazzrock/fusion, avant-garde percussion, epic and ambient.

 

Currently looking for other ways to distribute my music. I have a preliminary artist website at https://praestabilismusic.weebly.com/

I can appreciate that earning is not a main motivating factor, however going past a certain point, in size or growth rate, even reach, does require or at least hugely benefits from money. Music costs. Gear. Marketing. Space. Time. The decision then becomes if you don’t fund your music, or if you fund your music from your own pocket, or the amount you extend or amplify your capability, 0% to 100% of funding from elsewhere, such as income from fans, or sync rights. It’s choices and consequences. I mention this only because you mention money and it’s importance.

Welcome to the site Praestabilis. You have come a long way in your musical journey already. There is plenty of support here including opportunities for collaboration on music projects. Did you have a positive experience in your dealings with Distrokid? I am looking to take that leap of faith myself soon.

Concerning Distokid, it is easy to use and it works, however to are some caveats. First your music will land on pirate sites also. It takes also a bit of effort to enter each track info by hand. There are some premium options such as legacy, so that your music stays on the streaming platforms after you closed your account. I did not do that so all my music got deleted from the platforms and google... Further there is also a premium option for hires 48Khz music. I have not checked out tunecore yet, but it seems that this is even more expensive than Distrokid.

 

Yes, John, making music is expensive. But I am only a recording artist, not an active performing stage artist.

Welcome. Since you are a drummer, I have a question for you. I have a Gopichand, a single string instrument that is a bamboo drum with bamboo struts holding the lone tuning peg in place. Have you ever played one or in your experience as a drummer ever seen it used for percussion? It has a single metal string centered in a goat skin head on an upside down drum. You need anything reach out, and thanks for any information you can give.

Thanks. This is how I have mine set up with hardware springs. 28 gauge Slinky string. Will check out your music thanks again.
