1. I thought I was the only one who didn't listen to a lot of music. I do listen to CD's, but can hardly stand anything on the radio anymore. The classic rock statons are what I like but after so many years of the some songs, i can never get comfortable with them anymore. I want to listen to newer music but I really hate the pop crap, I have since the mid 80's. I'm also very afraid of unintentionally stealing a melody. I know I struggle with melodies, and I easily sing my lyrics to the melody of a song I'm listening to, trying to get an up-to-date sound. I also have about a commercial to commercial attention span, and really resent people trying to sell me stuff when I don't initiate the interaction, I can't watch tv that long etiher. I can sit and pick and pluck for hours tho. No real structure, just looking for chords that sound good together. Even that is going away since I have begun to learn a few progressions and the names of them. Soemtime I wonder how enjoyable music is for those of you who hear a G chord, and know it as such when listening and then hear where the music goes after that. I wonder if the predictability deadens the enjoyment or adds to frustration. I have enjoyed Listening to Alabama Shakers lately. I love how the singer throws herself at the music and vocal delivery, but I haven't gone out and bought a CD yet. Maybe I will.
2. Nah. But I might send them a introduction and ask if it would be ok to send them a personal message about an idea you've been wanting to share with them. I think it's good you asked the question, shows you care.
3. The Maccaferri looks like the guitar Jeff Beck is playing in the video on the other thread. I have a cheap mexican made Martin 3/4 that sounds fairly good for a kick around. It still has some wood, the neck and head stock, but the top and sides seem plastic. It still varies in tune from the basement (humid) to upstairs (dryer) but not like my Seagull does. I do see in guitar shops where they place a humidifier directly under a guitar....I can't accept that. To me that seems so strange, even if I don't know squat about the proper humidity level a guitar should be kept at, exposing it to forced humid air seems wrong, or at least fake because while it may change the tune of the guitar while a potential buyer is playing it, chances are it wont live it's life like that. Unless I'm completely out of kilter with how others store the instruments. I keep mine in the basement (it's finished) where I do all the recording. They are placed on regular stands, in the open air, but the air is not dry air and it's cooler than the rest of the house. But, lol, the plastic guitar would solve some issues.
4. Two Hearts - John Hiatt It's like I got Two hearts with you baby Like I've got two ears It goes in one And out the other Whenever you are near A train of smoke And flames keep a comin' Like a burning spear And I know you watch me go Even as I'm standing here Doppelganger, Caterwauling Notes trail off low Love comes And love keeps going That's really all I know You hear the sound Of a lonesome town You wanna let that whistle blow But it gets there before you do And it leaves before you wanna go Two hearts one for me and one for you Two hearts do you feel the way I do Two hearts one to have and one to yield Two hearts and 100 miles of steel I keep running back and forth, Running back and forth for what's real Could it be there's four between us That don't scare me none I seen you when you felt like running I seen you with your gun A single bullet in the barrel Midnight chamber spun Morning kiss, an unclaimed fist And you laughing at the sun Two hearts, one for me one for you Two hearts do you feel just like I do Two hearts one to have and one to yield Two hearts and a hundred miles of steel I keep running back and forth, Running back and forth just to feel Two hearts one for me one for you Two hearts do you feel the way I do Two hearts one to have and one to yield Two hearts and a million miles of steel Two hearts Two hearts I keep running back and forth, Running back and forth just to feel

It came as a heavy blow, but we sorted the matter out" Lyrics from eLyrics.net
6. Cool, nice turn out! That's a dudes basement?
7. I miss the days you could just wallup something and it started working better. Did you reboot it? Did you recently download something? You may have to remove whatever it was if you did. Free software has bad effects to other programs for whatever reason. Those are my easy fixes, A good wallup between tries never hurts either. If none of that works, take it in to the computer repair store and spend 20 minutes telling them what is happening, that way when they turn it on to look for themselves, everything will have resolved itself and you can go home. it's PFM.
8. My bad. Sounded like a generator. Can't claim to know anything about organization.
9. How does a program like that work? Do you suppose there is an algorithm programmed for context, style, background, audience, melody, rhyme, cliche, alliteration, meter, simile, metaphor, genre, that includes all the conversations you've had and all the books you've read, and all the people you've met, and all the songs you've loved and the people you've lost and the gifts you've discovered, and all the other things that go into a good line? My opinion is, You've worked too hard at lyric writing to go the way of a software engineered lyric. This program isn't for someone like you, it's for someone who wants to be able to write like you already do. Tom
10. oh, i'm sure he calls them poems. But since I'm the arbiter of such things, they are in fact lyrics.
11. No doubt he's still getting royalty checks. Just think how much Francis Scott Key would have made by now.
12. good point for a different era of music. Yesterday's pop hits have all been written already.
13. I had to run, back to finish I, myself, am not suffeciently in tune with the simple have fun and entertain the audience factor. I can't write pop top 100. I don't want to. But then again, am I really so self absorbed that I can't be entertaining? If and when such entertainment element I provide gets to the point where a record company feels they can profit from it, will I have written an undeniable pop hit. But never until the value of their profit exceeds the value of my talent. (he,he,he....which is very small indeed). That is the music business, they don't and never have cared about the artist in any way other than how it best suits them. I think it suits them best to be profitable, they do too.

15. I got the lyrics for my UOHW (undeniable one hit wonder). I call it, Reflections. I want to believe in something bigger than life Just for this afternoon or maybe longer See a sign hanging over the highway Like a bridge to a promise land of fulfillment An undeniable infinitesimal Expression of individualism A place where I could go to find My tongue untied with soliloquism Soliloquism isn’t a word so I texted it out To all my friends to see who was listening and if they wanted to join me in a quest to seek glory for inventing a word but they were all busy with day-to-day or thought to themselves “I don’t want to go with him, Besides I looked and there’s no such thing Never is, never was, a soliloquism” Guess I’ll have to look somewhere else For grandeur and immensity In introspect, should have known all along Soliloquisms have no propensity
16. Geez, that sounds terrible. I don't even understand what makes people think the way they do sometimes. My collaborations have been great. Some folks on Songstuff and I have done quite a few. Sometimes I was presented with music and melody to write lyrics for, and sometimes they even had some of the lyric completed. Sometimes they took the lyric and completely came up with music and melody to fit. But everytime, before changing anything, we communicated what the change might be and asked what the other thought of it. Then when posting, always give the other person their credits. Open communication, here's what I can do- here's what you can do - do you think we can work together in 50/50 split? It's fun to do, especially for a lyrics only member, who really needs to collaborate in order to hear the words in song form. But it's a mutual respect deal, each person gets a say, and deserves to be heard. A good trusting relationship can be built. Tom Havfe you read this thread Dan? http://forums.songstuff.com/topic/10127-songwriting-collaboration-for-lyricists/
17. Reminds me of a time I prayed for patience, can't wait for God to stop answering that prayer.
18. I've been trying to Keep It Simple and have found it's ridiculously difficult. It's like the crazy man in the straight jacket has the key to the padded cell and keeps locking the Dr. out. I don't know any keys to success in writing a commercially viable song. I know there is an entire market out there willing to pick my pockets bare in persuit of "the dream". Perhaps 1 in a million get that big break? I don't know the exact odds. Question is, how many millions of dollars did the songwriting market realize in that one success story? If you want to make money in songwriting, I'd suggest writing a book on how to do it, you'd have more success. The odds of me becoming content with what I do are far better. No financial rewards in it, but the thought that one day I might be happy with my own work seems like a pretty nice goal to write toward. Stay hungry Tom
19. Sunday was the 2 year ann. of moms passing. Nothing like what you described happened, but since she always used to say "Tommy, you should sing", I did record a song in her memory. I love this weather!
20. King Tut Steve Martin https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZNJn-HjlYI&feature=player_embedded
21. If the other shoe fits.......wear it too.
22. I've been working on it since you posted this. I'm not having that good of luck. Funny how something gets stuck in your head. My thumb is argumentative about how far it can stretch and come back around for another chord, that one seems out of reach for me yet. I've tried recording drums from the keyboard in it so I can keep the same timing and that doesn't seem to be going well either. When I play and sing at the same time, I can't hear the drum count any more, it goes away in my brain and doesn't come back until I think about where I am and then the whole thing falls apart. So I tried only strumming and I can't get through the song. I can sing the whole thing through acapella (sp) I'd like to record a simple piano chord progression for the background as well. With the different tuning I don't know what chords i'm playing but Pat has given me a chord chart with capo positions so I can might figure that out. Gotta run, but thank you so much Tom
