  1. What do you think of it? What are you using it for?
  2. Firstly, thanks for bringing this up. I am happy to talk about it. We obviously want our community to improve, so feedback and suggestions are always very welcome. btw The musician’s lounge is for chat, and there is the chatroom bar. I think the main reason the forums feels so dead right now is the activity is spread across a lot of boards plus the current lack of activity only started in October, for some reason largely coinciding with the trouble in Israel/Palestine. I don’t know why when most users are based in the USA, UK and Canada. Add to that, activity on the www part of the site has more than doubled in the same time. Another big reason is that for a few reasons coming together right now, staff have been busy elsewhere, but now we are all back and keen to see our forums busy and active again. What we set our minds to, we do. Luckily activity in the last few days has been picking back up, if a bit patchy. What we need to do as a community is help make Songstuff the type of community you want it to be. Activity BREEDS Activity There is a lag. Anything from a week to 6 weeks, before such a push sees results (less time for previously busy areas, up to 6 weeks for “new ground”. I will also add that what people look for from a forum or community has changed. the swap over does always have a dip before the rise. Luckily we have a strong vision and are willing to adapt and incorporate new ideas.
  3. It’s funny. I don’t really get the like/dislike reaction to my own material. I feel it is either right or not, and I may feel pride or not. Songs from my more distant past I may have a variety of reactions too from thinking how naïve I was or insightful and as well as pride or being pleased I might feel something closer to shame or embarrassment, but rarely. Mostly I think we are on our own personal journey as writers and part of that is making mistakes and learning.. so even when I do have feelings of embarrassment, my feelings are pretty muted. I think the songs are too personal for strong reactions to the song itself. My songs almost always relate to something that means something to me. If the song works, it evokes that emotional reaction to the subject… so like/dislike rarely comes into it. I might realise a song in a style I am not a fan of, but that is just “a song in a context”, so I don’t get wound up by it. Often such renderings of a song offer an opportunity to learn. A version of a song is just a temporary thing, so no sense in feeling bad about it.

  11. Hey gang I wanted to ask a few related quick questions. They are NOT Songstuff specific. They’re about artists/songwriters/Producers/Musicians in general, across multiple platforms. This comes from a general impression of attitudes, interest areas, active numbers and expressed ambition/aspiration. There’s a lot more negative views being expressed by musicians online, almost to “What’s the point?” Levels. They largely still make the music but it’s almost treated as a “Meh”. I have seen this across the various features and various platforms. I’ve also noticed, less experienced artists/songwriters/producers/musicians seem willing to get involved. Like burn out, been there done that sort of attitude. So much so that younger musicians beginning to come back to music activity have much fewer experienced heads chipping in help. I see that even on platforms with an older audience, like Facebook. Importantly, have they lost their passion? If you have insight or opinions on these questions, please comment below! Cheers John
  12. I love a good home studio project as much as commercial studio. A project studio can be approached with ingenuity and creativity to transform home space into something both functional and aesthetically appealing. Even multifunctional! Many is the bedroom or corner of a living room that has been transformed by a tech head into an awesome home studio space.
  13. Lyrics I called you "love", just for the last time In whispers, I'm sure you didn't hear What is it worth? Well, you are the smart one With answers, go on and disappear Time took its time And so did miles Love took the blame too far to remain For us to realize That when we were young, our troubles were small things And comfort laid all too close in hand We didn't learn 10 years' worth of virtue Direction ill-treated all the plans I wasn't kind And you were blind Love took the blame too far in the game For us to realize Mahesh is a singer-songwriter from Bangalore, India weaving elements of folk, pop, and indie into heartfelt melodies. Currently signed to the U.S.-based indie label Red Circle 7 Records and endorsed by Astha Guitars, Mahesh has drawn vocal comparisons to John Mayer, Damien Rice, and Thom Yorke. Over the past decade, he has built a diverse audience across India and abroad, captivating listeners with his impassioned live performances at intimate venues and major festivals alike. In 2018, Mahesh released his breakthrough debut EP "Accept" which earned acclaim from Rolling Stone India and other major outlets, as well as playlist spots on Spotify and iTunes. The EP's lead single "Fading Colours" resonated deeply with fans, amassing over 400,000 streams worldwide. Beyond his own music, Mahesh operates the vocal coaching business "Rewire the Voice" where he shapes emerging vocal talents in the film and independent music world. He also works as staff at one of the largest music communities online - Songstuff.com Known for his impassioned stage presence and emotive performances, Mahesh's journey is a constant evolution, weaving his life experiences into his art. As he continues to explore new musical horizons, he brings along his dedicated and passionate followers, forging a profound connection through his music. https://www.mahesh-music.com/
  14. Many thanks for that David. Sounding pretty good. I’d be interested You should consider posting individual songs to our showcase request board. There are restrictions/rules but they are few and understandable. One song at a time. Perhaps we can explore ways to help promote your release?
  15. For all it counts, I enjoyed the song. The Beatles have been there all through my life. I don’t give them credit for all their songs have meant to me through the years. It might not be their best song, but still it was an emotional “So long”. I liked the idea of the video, though the execution of some parts could have been better. It was nice that after all these years an unreleased original still makes it out.
  16. Hey Esbey! Welcome to Songstuff Ah the joys of building your own studio. If interested, you could start a blog on Songstuff and share your journey. There are so many aspects that can provide a learning opportunity for others. I love studios. A bit of a studio geek if I am honest! I look forward to hearing some of your songs! Cheers John
  17. Hi as the title suggests, a short clip of the Beach Boys laying down some smooth grooves.., their harmonies are out of this world.

  21. A good outlook to have. Can you say what kind of songs do you want to write? Are there any writers that inspire you?
  22. Glad to help. The track is High Hopes, off the Division Bell album: It takes a minute to get into it (hey it’s Pink Floyd, a minute is nothing!)
  23. Hi and welcome to Songstuff Stephanie! Good to meet you! Do you have an aim/purpose for your lyrics?
