To practice, sing the harmony lines to established songs. (The Eagles Spring to mind) It will give you a feel for your own, or others harmony lines.

it was something that was written about 20 years ago. Dont know where the link is - dont think the author cares as its on every music board!
will remove it.
Put it back!

So what about vocal enhancers like Anteres Auto Tune? Is this something we should be looking at? Us non singers I mean!
-
I am not a singer but have worked with many and what most dont seem to understand is that the voice is an instrument. It needs practise and in cases it needs lessons. But none of the singers i have worked with have every had a lesson and rarely practise. it seems that a lot of singers dont believe that the voice should be trained in the same way as some one learning say the guitar. Hours of scales, hours of technique etc. most singers let themselves down by not breathing in the correct places.
Do you believe then, that any voice can be trained to sing? Or are there some people who will never be able to sing no matter what?

I found a picture of my best bit of clay modelling... though the pic isn't amazing... I'll try and remember to photograph stuff when I next visit the parentals...
No-one else got any hidden talents?!
That's you! You lazy bum!
-
Perhaps we do it unconciously? I must say it's something I would never even have thought about had you not brought it up!
-
Example "talk to the hand, the face ain't listening". A common phrase.
Is it?
Personaly, I don't think I ever do that. Intentionally or otherwise! I also don't recall reading any lyrics (here) that have employed any 'phrases' that I would have recognised. is this something I've just failed to notice? Or are you all using language that I can't see through the haze of wine?

I think Alistair hit the nail on the head. The lyric with music is a lot easier to adjust to if there is no rhyming scheme. But there are plenty of songs with no rhyming scheme! America - Simon and Garfunkle springs to mind.

recent crop of pop-tarts
I fancy one for my breakfast!

That's magic Steve... Reminds me of the kinda energy the Polysics had live, completely insane...
It's the best thing I've seen in a while! I think he's holding back too much! You can see in the first few bars, he really wants to go for it!

Alistair loves Neil Young. I hate him because I can't stand the sound of his voice. That doesn't mean he's a crap singer! Just that I don't like his voice! Use what you have. Thats what I say! Sing like nobody's listening, dance like nobody's watching!
As a certain Antipodian songstress recently said to me!

Watch the Drummer. We need more guys like this out there!

If you write the melody and the chords, just tell the guitar players and the bass player what they are! They can sort out between them what they play! All you need to write is the structure of the song. i.e. where the guitar solo comes in, how long the intro might be, what the ending will do etc. The crucial part (as the writer) is the melody and the lyrics.

Not sure where you could upload a midi file? Why not get yourself some free webspace somewhere and upload it there. Then you can just link to it! Have a look here.

You made that sound sooooo sexy! I'm off to play with me fifths...

Ah ha! Got a train set have you Steve?
Sadly not! I built these for a mate. Who's getting a little bit peed off because I haven't finished them yet! But having seen his layout! I have been considering it myself. I love trains! And if it's good enough for Rod Stewart, it's ok by me! I started this when I used to work for an Architect in Bristol. He showed me a model he'd built of a project. It was pretty stunning! But never came to fruition. So I built a model of a mates house. I think he still has it, despite him moving a few times. It was built from card. These are built with plastick!

and I occsionaly make architectural models. Usually to a scale of 1:76. Here's an unfinished pair. the tallest one is about 16cm (6") high.

Flirting. I'm good at that!

Can anyone recommend a good book for somone to imrpove their understanding: like EQ, effects, mixing etc. Most of the Cubase books I've seen seem to be aimed at the complete beginner.
Thanks.
No, but I can recomend a good website! Click here.

I have another guitar which is currently tuned to F#G#G#G# but that's another story

I guess it depends on what you get used to. I have Audacity, but rarely use it! Mainly because I use Sonar.

Have a look at this.

Me too! Always wanted to sing. But never quite felt right. I did used to sings a couple of songs in most bands I was in. Just to give the lead vocalist a rest now and then! But I was never a confident singer! Now, I couldn't give a rats ass! I'm looking forward to the Songstuff meet up so I can get up and piss everybody off with my vocal ineptitude!
