Hey! I think that little guy on the end is out of sync!

Hey Donna.I don't know if you've seen this? Basic PC Recording It's the most basic ways to record with a PC. If you buy a seperate soundcard, it fits into an empty PCI slot. That's one of the white slots shown here in the top left section. It is certainly possible to use your 4 track as an input mixer.
There will be a thin cable from your CD or DVD drive which can connect to the card for playing CDs
More expensive soundcards will have multiple inputs/outputs. Usually taking a regular size jack plug.
Here's a picture of the M audio Delta 66. It has a seperate breakout box with multiple ins and outs.
To fit a card, you need to take the side off the computer . If you're not comfortable with that? Take your box to someone who is. Maybe the retailer?
Hope this helps!

I think I could be out of tune with it...?
2 years to build! Wow
-
never did figure out digi-recording or posting up mp3s john. so no, that info is as relevant to me as a wagonload of monkeys.
Is that a wagon load of Arctic Monkeys...?
As for the download No: 1. I suppose it was just a matter of time! Sooner or later, the big boys have got to wake up to the reality of the internet! I think it's Great! I heard on the news yesterday of a girl doing gigs in her flat and broadcasting on the net. She grew an audience of over 100,000 fans. So she went to one of the big companies (can't recall who?) and asked for a record deal! How's that for initiative!

Those items figure quite prominantly in one of Rudi's fantasies...
-
The technical ability of this guy is quite astonishing! But having listened to the track without watching it, I can't help feeling that it doesn't sound like a brilliant piece of music...?

a scared rite
I thought this was a spelling error...
But then I read the rest of the text and realised it might not be...

Steve, I know, I'm avoiding the PC "for now" for good reason, tho. But maybe it'd be less of a headache than everything else is and I am deceiving myself!
I thought it must have both strings and organ cause I (blank) as a keyboardist, lol. But I'll think on that, too.
Sometimes less is more! By using the keyboard as an input for strings, you should only need a few notes!
If you start using the PC, you can record the keyboard as a midi stream. This will enable you to go in and edit every single note if you so wish. Thats how I use the keyboard! I can hardly string 3 notes together as a piano piece but it hasn't stopped me doing things like THIS. You don't need a powerful computer to do this, I used to use my old Amiga for midi, and then record to my four track. If you need some help? There are plenty of willing people on these boards!
-
I would consider looking at whether you actually need all those instrument? For example. Do you really need to have strings AND Organ?
I think if I were you, I would try recording the basis of the song to the 4 tracks. i.e. Drums, Bass, Guitar and Piano, mix that to a good stereo cassette tape and play it back into the 4 track! That will give you at least 2 empty tracks for voice, or three if you want to record in mono, freeing up the last track for strings! I also think you should seriously, seriously consider using the PC as a recording device!
-
Whatever you decide to get, go and play the one you are buying. If you can, play a few of your own songs on it. This way, you'll know if there is something you don't like! i.e. string height, fret width/height etc. If you can go back another day and play the same guitar again, even better!
-
If you have a midi lead from the midi out on the keyboard to the computer, you can play notes into the computer. If you want the computer to play those notes so you hear the sound of the keyboard, you will need a midi out from the computer to the midi in on the keyboard. All midi is, is information. It's not notes or music, it just tells the computer to play a note. (Or not as the case may be!)

Ha ha.
I would be interested in hearing that one chord song. Sounds like a profitable approach. Been chasing simplicityfor awhile now, albeit in a different way.
S & J > Mud Swirl: That's not really a drink, is it?
This is absolutely a true story! I used to play in a duo with a mate. (me on Bass) We played a small pub out in the sticks one sunday night. It was probably the worst gig we had ever played. The audience were not interested, and nobody was listening. My mate then launched into 'Just the Way You Are' by Billy Joel. On one chord and in a stereo typical pub singers voice! We played the whole song on C!! It was dreadful! But the worst part?
NOBODY NOTICED!!!
-
Does this help, or did I just make the mud swirl?
Ill take a mud swirl! With 5 sugars and cream please!

I know what else is spelt with an A and is one word.
Is it Avitar...?
-
P.S. Spellchecking and grammer checking were not used in the above. I'm too lazy.
Spell checking should be 2 words, and grammar is spelt with an A.
-
You have to wonder if the fiddlers are not just playing slightly flat or sharp...?
-
Yes, this is a well known problem with pianos and stringed instruments. I'm surprised that you've not come across this before Rude? I've often wondered about the tuning of electronic keyboards? Do they sound out of tune to a piano...? My personal theory is, all stringed instrument players are tone deaf and obviously playing the wrong notes!

You smug bastard...

Every band I have played in was an equal split between members. If you get one member being paid more, that can lead to resentment amongst the other members. (This is for playing gigs only) If you join an existing band , try to find out what the others are putting into the band. If one person is doing all the bookin, organising rehearsals, supplying transport to gigs etc, then they probably will want a bigger slice of the cake. If you intend to join as an equal member, chipping in with helping with all of the above, then you deserve an even cut!
Why not move to Torquay in England and we can form our own band. (But you'll need to buy me lots of beer...)
