  1. My virus and ad-aware software has been overly busy the last couple days. Must be a hackers convention going on somewhere!
  2. Lazz, It's only going to be a 30 second spot so I'm going to try and keep it simple. 30 seconds of basic music broken down like this; 10 seconds of me and possibly a female singing the name of the company 10 seconds of the owner saying their company's plan 10 seconds once again me and the female singing the name. Plain and to the point. I don't want to do cheesy music, so if that is a problem the deal is off. What do you think?
  3. Funny, that's pretty much how I look at it too.
  4. Has anyone here ever been involved in writing 30second commercial spots/jingles? I was contacted yesterday to possibly do one for a local computer store. If I decide to do it, it will be for radio only. Not sure I can pull this off as I have never really thought about it before. Any comments? Tom
  5. I wish you luck Eddie. I'm sure someone here will check things out again as it's been 7 months since the original invite. Tom
  6. I'm pretty sure you won't get one specific answer. There is no correct way to go about this. Myself, I write music first then apply lyrics afterwards. I know others here that do the opposite. And, there are those that do it either way. You can only figure out which way works best for you. Sorry for the lack of help. Tom
  7. OK, I will try to explain a bit more. I first met Jim Counter all of 25 years ago. I went to a few of his bands concerts. I last saw him about 15 years ago. I sent him a few of my tracks over the years to get his opnion on this or that. Nothing serious, but just some tips he had learned himself from working/struggling in the Nashville scene. Other than that, no real corrospondence. Anyway, I'm not sure why, but he e-mailed me about a month ago asking my opinion on two of his newest songs. After seriously listening, I wrote back and said his pieces needed some piano work and would he mind if I messed with that and also worked on the overall sound. I just wanted to do it for fun since I was doing nothing myself..........for quite some time now. Well, I did just that and the next thing I know my phone was ringing. He told me that he, his sound engineer, and his new rep liked what I did. They asked if I would be interested in working with them. One thing that Jim did tell me was that in the dog eat dog world in Nashville it was very easy to get a representative. However, finding one that really cared about him was not so easy. He says he now has a rep (after 12 years) that is working hard for him and not to be surprized if something good comes out of this. I'm not sure if there are any producers waiting or not. Never got into that end of it. I will say that he has some great people around him now and I'm just glad to be a part of his team. The two songs I am working on at the moment are instrumentals. Jim has a great voice, but these songs just don't happen to be vocals. I'll keep you posted as things develope.........or not! My shoe size is 12. No articles that I know of. My wife just threw you a kiss Steve. Must be a French thing....i dunno. Tom My lawyer will be in touch
  8. I'm not sure what information you are looking for.
  9. HA! No. I just received two songs through the mail and therefore I will be working at home! You.......you.....you...womanizer you.
  10. Hmmm, I would've pegged you as more of a golden delicious!
  11. Hopefully Kurty will see this post cause he is a Mac expert.
  12. ...or nervous! I have just recently been invited to start working with this Singer/Musician/Songwriter out of Nashville. We are also working with this fella Jesse who has just finished working (Engineer/Mix Editor) for a new song for Faith Hill. I will basically do some background piano work and also some pre-mastering on the end tracks. This will be something new for me, but Jim (The songwriter) seems to like my preliminary work. This won't be album work at this point, but more of a package presented to producers. Who knows, you might just hear our work on a movie some day. That would be cool! Tom

    Singing

While it is possible to get fairly good over time, not all people are able to do so. Tone deafness is quite common and some people can't sing on key because they can't hear "comprehend" the notes they are shooting for. Therefore, some people will never be able to sing. That's life!
  14. Just one tip that many people new to recording almost always overlook. Quality shielded cords. You don't have to spend a bunch either. Shop around. For gods sake, don't use speaker cords!!! Another thought; Many people set up their studios in basements................yes, basements with cement floors. Make sure you place some kind of covering on the floor, preferably rubber containing as this will help shield line noise, not to mention a possible shocking experience. You want to help eliminate room noise?......Do it cheaply buy purchasing some of those foam bed covers. They are large, around 4 feet by 7 feet and can be bought for around 8-10 bucks a piece. Carry on. T M
  15. There was an old lady, Who sat on a tree, That fell one day in the bog. It killed her you see, And now I go there, To sit on that Anna Log. Koppee rite ATom2
  16. Never been, probably never will. I'm happy at home.
  17. http://www.cnn.com/2005/SHOWBIZ/Music/05/3...e.ap/index.html Now I know the listening world has lost it! Would any of you UKers like to explain this?
  18. I, for some odd reason have been getting fan e-mails lately. This one fellow said Zappa once said: I read an interview of Frank Zappa from a few years back where he said that people should make music to just share with each other. He said this is one of the greatest things about home recording. He said that people should avoid the concept of being a "star" and commented that being a star doesn't have much to do with talent. If this is a correct quote, it's a very good statement for the younger talent out there. I think most of us "Old Guys" know this. Stick with your talent! If the star part happens then great! But don't let it stop you if it doesn't!
  19. Sorry I can't help. I use stand alone equipment for all my recordings, but I'm sure somebody here will pipe in. Without me knowing anything about recording software, I'll still bet nothing is free. Good luck, Tom
