  1. Both actually. The Beta58 & Beta57 have a stronger presents to the mixing board (less gain required). It is noticable but I don't think it is worth the cost. This is just an observation from live gigging. I can't say if they are worth it in the recording field. Tom
  2. My company has the same anti-porn policy!
  3. Cool. Never heard of that name before. Is it s copy of a Numann? By the way, I used an SM58 for years live and believe it or not, the cheaper SM57 is a better overall mic. Congrats man. Tom
  4. Way to go John! The dude just contacted me and wants his 20 bucks back. Sheesh!
  5. This is all fine and dandy, but where does that other sock go in the wash? I mean......really!
  6. Thanks John, Christmas was pretty good. The kids had fun and that's all that matters. I should point out that the reason I am waiting for a multi-channel is I like to run keys through those units when needed. By the way, my eldest daughter is getting married. Looks like I need to work on a special song for her. Without her knowing of course! Oh, I should mention I was 13 when she was born. Take care, Tom
  7. I'm sorry. As you may have noticed my contribution to SongStuff has amounted to nothing more than a hill of poop. Anyway, here goes. The brands that I have heard include the following. APHEX Focusrite AVALON DESIGN PreSonus ART UNIVERAL AUDIO I am a proud owner of one of the cheap models which go for about $200 and has an actual worth to me of about $5. Cheap = Junk as I have learned.....the hard way. What I have noticed about the ones that really turned my crank is they have the following controls: Tube ot tube emulation compression. Limiter Parametric EQ - overlaping = probably made the most difference. Mic & line inputs. Now, before I go any further I'll tell you I don't own any of these..................................yet. The only reason I haven't purchased one yet is because most in my price range are single channel. As time goes by the stereo or multi-channel will eventually come down to my level. You may find one of the above for slightly under $500 if you look around. Other can go for much, much more than that. Myself, I am leaning toward PreSonus. Hope that helps. Tom P.S. Some of the above brands also make low end models so beware.
  8. At the moment I can't give you any names (at work), but as I have found out through visiting some studios, you get what you pay for. The high end models are light years ahead of the so called affordable ones. Some of the cheaper models do little or nothing, at least for the average listener. Tom
  9. Well, this ol' dog must be doing something right. I was just e-mailed and told the versions with my piano and my mastering work are being used for promotional purposes. I was not that happy with what I did but the main artist (Jim) was. That's all that counts I guess. Tom P.S. The best part is he is flying up my way in 2 weeks and he's buying me a few pints.
  10. P.S. The Rave Bar in Milwaukee isn't too far from me. I should call them and see if that part is true. As far as I have ever seen the RAVE only has bands I have heard of......and I'm not one of 'um.
  11. I'm sure they're legit but the site they found me on is very old (mostly junk) and it says in bold print, "ONE MAN BAND" Brother.................................. I'll book when I can afford to clone myself 6 times over.

  13. With technology the way it is today and has been for the past 20 years I would say in many cases the answer is yes. Many times you only pay extra for the name. Kinda like drugs. Tom
  14. As I was perusing, I new someone would say this!
  15. I think I said this in another post, but I lined my entire studio (walls and ceiling) with those egg carton looking bed covers. I bought the Queen size sheets and it only cost me about $80 to do the whole thing. Works just like the foam crap you can buy from music outlets, for a tenth of the cost. Screw them! Tom

After some discussion (and disagreement) between the moderators, I have put this post back to it's original state. Songstuff neither supports nor denies the validity of this producer.
  17. Grand Piano. I played one many years ago at a music store. I don't remember the brand, but it was jet black and the sound was unbelievable. Just then a salesman came buy and I asked him how much. He said $18,500. I promptly wiped my fingerprints off and carefully stepped away. I've got an console and many digital pianos. They're nice, but nowhere close to the above.
  18. That's it Lazz. I am naming you Songstuff Legal Department!
