Wassat? Now you're saying my head is a baloon?

I don't burp with a rubbery aftertaste, so I don't think so!

On a bright note that tells us you haven't been smuggling heroin or cocaine too. I begin to suspect you've been getting strip searched for pure enjoyment now!

Hey Gang

After the runaway popularity (*ahem*) and success (*coughs*) of last week's writing challenge, your publisher has decided to treat you to an interesting brief.

An ancient blues man, "Wiley Ole Blues", is planning a comeback, however he never wrote his own material, he relied upon a TEAM of writers to write his hits.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it:

1. You need to divide into teams. The minimum size of a team is 2! The maximum size of a team is 4.

2. Each team must include at least one lyricist that is NOT CURRENTLY AN ACTIVE MEMBER of our group (ie they can be a member but not active, or not currently a member at all).

3. Each writer must draft their fair share of the song. If there are 2 of you that is 50%. If there are 3 that is 33 %, 4 of you that is 25%.

4. You should use 12 bar blues or one of it's variants. (check our 12 bar blues song form article to get an idea). You can use a hybrid scheme, such as 12 bar blues with AB or ABC song forms.

5. Wiley remembers the good ole days and wants the lyrics to be about a temptress who will stop at nothing to get her man.

All lyrics should be completed and the completed version posted by this Friday. Wiley needs only one song, so, I will pick one set of lyrics to highlight to community members next Friday.

This post will self destruct in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1....

DANG! did this really destruct? I can't find the article for the 12 bar blues either!!! John, are you awake? Can you help a poor American girl out?

Considering I work in border enforcement, I take that to be a good thing!

Have found some H in my time though!

Yes, it was handed in. And yes, ALL of it!

Oh, and I wear the rubber gloves around here!

How do we always end up on a tangent? although I love a bit of fun.

Agreed Lisa great group, some fun but also some learning.

Les

Les, I blame Kel for the tangents! He always has some witty comment! Yeah, it's all his fault! HA HA HA!

Just wait until the Songwriting course is over (and maybe I can find a new job too) then I'll have time to add to the tangents!

I enjoy this challenge so much! It really ignites the brain and keeps me focussed on what I love to do: Write!

I got six and he ten days

Good friendship formed in that place

Busted in New Orleans

(Harp solo here)

(ad lib: Now, now, now, now)

I’m working hard to get out

Learning how to live without

All I need, New Orleans

Working so hard to get out

Learning how to live without

All I need, New Orleans

(Harp or wailing guitar solo here)

Ain’t no way! Got no luck!

She’s tied me here, I am stuck

Sweet thing called New Orleans

She’s tied me here, I am stuck

Sweet thing called New Orleans

Outro:

Busted in New Orleans

All I need, New Orleans

Sweet thing called New Orleans,

She’s got me now, New Orleans

Prisoner of Love Blues

V1

Baby, you lock me down with them brown sultry eyes

You're the key chainin' me with your lies

I'm a prisoner when you make love to me

A burning desire, I can't break free

V2

Baby, I plead guilty, show me some mercy now

Could give you all of me, if you’d only allow

Oh, you know how to make me misbehave

You sentence me to bein' a love slave

-Bridge-

Oh, baby baby you hold my heart so hard n' tough

I can't get free from your prison of love

You done stole my heart, yes n’ you did the crime,

And it’s me that’s on trial, and doing the time

V3

Listen now to me baby, have mercy on your man

I want you to listen up baby, giving you all I can

I aint got no right of appeal to you

I'll just keep singing the Prisoner of Love Blues

Hi Gang

Each of the entries had things that would have made it a suitable choice. Only one song really stuck to the whole 12 bar tradition out of the entries, which was interesting (to me at least), while we had what looks like a 16-bar blues in an overall AABA song form  and a 16-bar blues / AB song form hyrbrid.

Thematically and emotionally I felt "Prisoner of Love Blues" hit the mark quite well, and that is the song I have chosen as the winning entry,

Congratulations to the Trans Global Triad!

Cheers

John
