1. Do you sing, play an instrument or instruments?

Sing, Guitar, Keyboards - some drums and flute too, but not to the level of it being very useful.

I started playing when I was around 5 or 6 I guess.

2. Are you in a band or bands?

Not really, I am a solo artist - but I have other people playing for me so I guess it's sort of a band.

http://www.finnarild.com

3. Do you write songs?

Do you write lyrics, music or both?

I do it all :)

Do you have a writing partner?

Some times I do

4. Do you record your music?

Do you use a home studio? If so what gear do you use?

I have a dualcore Dell machine and a M-Audio 410 soundcard. I use Cubase as my DAW. I have several soft instruments and the ones I use the most are Quantum Leap Pianos, Symphonic Orchestra and Choirs. My favorite synth is the Absynth. Hypersonic 2 is a great plug for general synth sounds.

Do you use a recording studio?

I do vocals and mix in a pro recording studio.

Do you have music available on the web? if so where?

http://www.cdbaby.com/finnarild

5. What other roles do you perform in the music business?

I have produced and labelled another album in a completely different style for a friend. That includes promotion, cover graphics, writing a couple of songs and hands-on production in the studio.

I have also done guitar, background vocals and orchestral arrangements on several other releases.

6. Are you a tech head?

I'd have to answer "yes" to that - but not in any disabling way.

7. What country do you live in?

Norway

8. What are your ambitions?

I have several ambitions - I would like to release more progrock albums and start being a house-hold name in progrock music. Also I have an ambition of writing more songs for others and also possibly move into music for Commercials/TV/Movies. Finally, I'd like to write at least one big classical symphony before I die.

9. Do you draw/paint/write stories/computer art/dance or other creative pursuit?

I have done a bit of drawing in my time, but I never seem to get any good at it. I have done quite a lot of graphical work in my dayjob and websites for others. Good old Photoshop. Other pastimes is fishing, tending to my pets (two cats these days), loving my wife, redecorating (for the past 2 years ... while still loving my wife), gaming (currently World of Warcraft) and programming.

10. What would you like to get out of Songstuff?

Connections, advice, friends and fun.

1. Do you sing, play an instrument or instruments?

I sing – voice is my instrument.

I can make noises with other stuff but choose not to do so in public.

(Such a gentleman!)

I use keyboard and ear-holes for arranging.

I am largely self-taught - so it's been a slow road.

Luckily, it has been my privilege to work with some amazingly wondrous players and enjoy the benefits of fabulous on-the-job training.

I have also grabbed opportunities for odd lessons and workshops here and there whenever the chance arose and arises.

There is always loads more to learn.

I wish those education resources had been available to me much earlier.

2. Are you in a band or bands?

If there is a gig – there is a band.

What other instruments are in the band?

That depends on who is available.

Do you have a band website?

Nope.

3. Do you write songs?

Yes – well, I collaborate.

My writing partner is a proper musician so nowadays I stick to lyrics.

The world is much better-off.

4. Do you record your music?

We use a regular recording studio.

And real live musicians.

Do you have music available on the web?

Yup – it’s available from all the regular places.

Some of our songs are even listenable - if you can bear it – on the FaceBook page for Hip Pocket Music.

5. What other roles do you perform in the music business?

Management?

Have done.

Label owner?

Unfortunately.

Publishing?

Yes

Promotion?

Have done.

Other?

Yes.

6. Are you a tech head?

Nope.

But barely human.

7. What country do you live in?

Canada.

If you can call this living.

8. What are your ambitions?

Becoming better.

Evasion of creditors.

Posthumous fame and success.

Realistic alternatives appear most unlikely.

9. Do you draw/paint/write stories/computer art/dance or other creative pursuit?

I write stuff.

Pastimes??????

Maybe I should get some.

10. What would you like to get out of Songstuff?

Conversation.

1. Do you sing, play an instrument or instruments?....yes

What instruments?....drums, guitar, bass, keyboards

When did you start playing?

- drums - age 13-23, then completely quit everything musical / retaught myself at age 40

- guitar - began playing at age 40....same time I was relearning drums

- bass - around age 41

- keyboards - age 51

Did you teach yourself?

- drums....yes & no.....took lessons intially(age 13), taught part-time from 18-22 and then retaught myself at age 40

- guitar - NO....lessons from 40-42

- bass - limited lessons for basics while learning guitar...wanted to position myself to be able to work alone if need-be

- keyboards - YES....wanted to learn so I could work more color and diversity of textures into my arrangements......... bought 2 books on basics and read cover-to-cover before beginning

2. Are you in a band or bands?....joined my first band at age 14....between 14 & 23 there was only one breif period of about 3 months that I was not playing in at least 1 band....no band since age 23 though

What is the name of the band?....none

What do you play?....I was a drummer & singer from 14-23 when I was in bands

Do you have a band website?....several artist websites...just me though, at least for right now

3. Do you write songs?....yes

Do you write lyrics, music or both?....both

Do you have a writing partner?.....no

4. Do you record your music?.......yes

Do you use a home studio? If so what gear do you use?.....home studio/freestanding Tascam 24 track digital deck along with a mish-mosh of other gear

Do you use a recording studio?...nope!....strictly a hobbiest now

Do you have music available on the web? if so where?.....6 different sites total, links to most are included as part of my artist signature below

5. What other roles do you perform in the music business?

Management? Label owner? Publishing? Promotion? Other?...really doesn't apply to amateurs like myself

6. Are you a tech head?...no, but I make it point to try and know enough to get by and am always in search of new tips & tricks

7. What country do you live in?......USA

8. What are your ambitions?...musically speaking, to be able to continue functioning as a dedicated amatuer, continue growing as both a songwriter & a home studio technician and to constantly remind myself that I'm not a pro & that I should feel pretty good about whatever validation I manage to get along the way..........anything beyond that, will just be icing on the cake for me.

9. Do you draw/paint/write stories/computer art/dance or other creative pursuit?...not really, music is my primary creative outlet

What are your pastimes?....honestly, with a home to maintain, a wife, parents in their 80s still living on their own, a full-time job, 6 web sites & the usual social & family obligations that go with being an adult, there's really not time for too much more. I try to keep in some kind of reasonable physical shape, catch some TV & movies and work on things musical.

10. What would you like to get out of Songstuff?.....Because I was completely out of anything musical for over 17 years, I don't have musician or writer freinds anymore. Sites like songstuff are about the only contact I have with other musical people. Along with the comradery, I continue to learn, recieve feedback and get perspective from others who know as much or more about things musical as I do.

Hi, I am Freddy Nugz. I changed some of the wording or questions to better fit me.

I figured rather than leaving questions blank, we may as well get something out of it.

1. Do you sing, play an instrument or instruments?

Yes I do both

What instruments?

First and foremost: Singing, Beatboxing, and Guitar.

I can also play: Banjo, Accordion, Piano/Keyboard, Drums, Bass Guitar.

When did you start playing?

I started playing Guitar in 2000 when I was 15.

the others have all been developed sometime from 2005-present

Did you teach yourself?

I took 3 years of guitar lessons where I basically learned HOW to play the guitar.

after that I've just taught myself and figured out things on my own and played with a lot of other people.

I taught myself to fingerpick and song write.

All of the other instruments I've picked up and applied my previous knowledge of guitar and rhythm to.

I enjoy playing instruments how they are intended to.

so I don't approach the Bass the same way I approach the Guitar.

I slap and pluck, I finger pick, and I play bass lines, etc...

2. Are you in a band or bands?

Yes I am

What is the name of the band?

The Uniters

What do you play?

I sing and play guitar

What other instruments are in the band?

Bass and Drums

Do you have a band website?

Yes we do.

http://www.reverbnation.com/c./a4/2318202/997812/Artist/997812/Artist/link

3. Do you write the songs?

Yes

Do you write lyrics, music or both?

I write them both.

Do you have a writing partner?

No, I prefer to write the songs on my own.

4. Do you record your music?

Yes, we have a full 13 song demo recorded and are trying to re-record a final album version.

Do you use a home studio? If so what gear do you use?

I occasionally record myself for songwriting purposes with

a BOSS Micro BR Digital Recorder. It has 4 tracks

which makes it easy to put down a guitar track and sing over it.

Do you use a recording studio?

Yes. I have been in many a studio. Right now my preferred

studio of choice is York Recording studio based in Binghamton NY

where we live

Do you have music available on the web? if so where?

Visit our Reverb Nation profile:

http://www.reverbnation.com/FreddyNugz#

We also have a video on there of my whole band eating Habanero Peppers

and performing a song right after.

5. What other roles do you perform in the music business?--

Marketing, Producing, Managing, Booking, Designing

6. Are you Equipment driven?

No, I actually don't mess with equipment as much as I should.

I don't concentrate on what's coming out of the amps as much as

I concentrate on what is coming out of my mouth and my guitar,

but I need to put some more focus on it.

7. What country do you live in?

The United States

8. What are your ambitions?

To spread our music as far as we can physically travel.

To influence any amount of people to help Unite in any way big or small.

9. Do you draw/paint/write stories/computer art/dance or other creative pursuit?

I draw/Illustrate.

I have drawn since I was a child and I still draw now.

I use photoshop to create art. any vision that I can possibly think up I can create with

a couple of drawings and photoshop.

I also like to create video, anything that I can shoot and edit.

What are your pastimes?

Beatboxing is something that I do almost any time anywhere.

I spend a lot of time thinking

Street Fighter is an awesome thing when I have time for it.

10. What would you like to get out of Songstuff?

Conversation.

A couple of friends, discussions, opinions, interesting things to listen to or see.

1. Do you sing, play an instrument or instruments? Yes, I do

What instruments? Electric guitar and I dabble in bass occasionally

When did you start playing? In early August of 2008

Did you teach yourself? Yeah, pretty much. Just online resources and self-study

2. Are you in a band or bands? Not yet

What is the name of the band? n/a

What do you play? I'd like to start an instrumental / post-rock band

What other instruments are in the band? n/a

Do you have a band website? n/a

3. Do you write songs? In my head- not on paper ( I can't read or write sheet music)

Do you write lyrics, music or both? Just music. I'm an instrumentalist

Do you have a writing partner? Nope

4. Do you record your music? Some of it

Do you use a home studio? If so what gear do you use? No studio. I use my video camera and sometimes Audacity hehe

Do you use a recording studio? No

Do you have music available on the web? if so where? Yes, on Youtube. www.youtube.com/wayneguitar84

5. What other roles do you perform in the music business? None

Management? Label owner? Publishing? Promotion? Other? None

6. Are you a tech head? Not really

7. What country do you live in? United States

8. What are your ambitions? Hmm.. there's no short way to answer this. Even though I know most people consider instrumental music "unmarketable" and unsuitable for mainstream radio play I find it very enjoyable. Ever since the late 70s-early 80s pretty much ALL instrumental music has been forced underground and you're not going to find it unless you dig (which I've been doing for past few years). I know it would be unrealistic and damn-near impossible for one person to bring it up to the surface. So all I can strive for is to just do my part to help keep it from disappearing completely. There is most definitely an audience for it because people all over the world attend concerts to see instrumental artists all the time. I don't care about having my music on the radio or being in a band that becomes a household name- I just want to play what I like. This probably seems like a pretty cliche thing to say but it's the truth.

9. Do you draw/paint/write stories/computer art/dance or other creative pursuit? I used to draw

What are your pastimes? Like I said, I used to draw but that was a long time ago and I probably wouldn't be any good at it anymore. Other than that, I taught myself how to swing around nunchakus without hitting myself and I've been doing that for about 6-7 years now. Playing video games, watching movies, bike riding, hacky sack.

10. What would you like to get out of Songstuff? Hopefully to find some other people in my area to jam / start a band. If not, just having my music heard by a wider audience would be satisfying enough.

1. Do you sing, play an instrument or instruments? Yes.

What instruments? Keyboards, drums, percussion, vocals (fortunately it goes into a virtual talk box so no one will have to endure my singing), and I'm currently fiddling around with my uncle's old fiddle, though I don't know if I'll pursue it.

When did you start playing? Keyboards in 1990, drums in 1994, started messing with the fiddle about three weeks ago.

Did you teach yourself? I learned the rudiments in my school band and as I was the only percussionist willing to play the bells it taught me the note locations on keyboard instruments (thus ending the chaos started when I took up keyboards four years earlier). As the most advanced thing taught was the double stroke roll I'm more self taught than trained.

2. Are you in a band or bands? If you count virtual bands then I am one. Or at least I will be when I put the finishing touches on the characters.

What is the name of the band? Big Bubba Brown's Big Brass Band.

What do you play? Keyboards and drums when I'm on my Linux partition, on Windows it's all just mouse clicks.

What other instruments are in the band?

Do you have a band website? Not yet.

3. Do you write songs? Yes.

Do you write lyrics, music or both? Music

Do you have a writing partner? No, but I'm looking for a lyricist.

4. Do you record your music? Everything at this point is just mouse clicks, though when I can get a preamp for my drum module I'll be recording the drum tracks.

Do you use a home studio? If so what gear do you use? A Frankenstein PC (custom made by my brother for audio/video work and game development so there isn't really a brand) and the microphone that came with my sound card.

Do you use a recording studio? No.

Do you have music available on the web? if so where? Technically yes, but it's in a password protected folder and I only grant access to collaborators and a friend

5. What other roles do you perform in the music business?

Management? Label owner? Publishing? Promotion? Other?

6. Are you a tech head? Tech head as in music - Nope. Just stick to basic music theory. Tech head as in technology - Yes, but only in the areas of graphics and audio.

7. What country do you live in? United States of America

8. What are your ambitions? Musically - to finish writing a song and have it heard by more than just my family, whoever I'm dating at the time, and a friend. Personally - to take a bride, start a family, and achieve financial stability in order to support that family.

9. Do you draw/paint/write stories/computer art/dance or other creative pursuit? Computer generated graphics and game development, though the two are intermarried so they might as well be considered one pursuit.

What are your pastimes? In my free time I usually get up from my computer and put a TV dinner in the microwave. Three minutes later I take another break and stir the potatoes. Three minutes after that I get back up and bring the tray to my computer. In other words, I usually have just enough free time to microwave supper. The rest is spent trying to get my various ventures off the ground.

10. What would you like to get out of Songstuff? Critique, collaboration, and socialization in a place free from all of the headaches you usually find on social networking sites.
