  1. I'm starting to work on an EP called "Midwesturbia". Gettin' my mind right

Lol. I'll admit, I think the title is pretty awesome....now I have to try and back it up with music ;-)

  2. Tyler, ^^^This is some great advice. Also, I would recommend that you keep trying at the open mics. If there is a sign up sheet, get there early and make sure that you get a slot. This is a great place to meet musicians like yourself. A lot of times, the open mic venue will book you an opening gig or a full gig if they like your music.
  3. Hey. Thanks a lot, guys. This video is based off of David's excellent ideas, so I owe him all of the credit. Glad you guys liked it!
  4. Thanks, Jan. I'm glad you liked it. David gave me some great advice on making this
  5. Thanks a lot, bro. Certainly couldn't have done it without your creative input! ….apparently, bringing a video camera into a strip club is frowned upon. Who woulda thought?
  6. Thanks a lot Gry! Im glad you liked it, and you know I love you too Cant wait to hear your next song…I feel like it's been too long
  7. Dave Matthews Band last year. I usually stick to smaller shows nowadays Jack White should be a great show….I'm jealous!
  8. I've got my original home-studio set up for under $1000 by using Garageband as my DAW, 2 condenser mics, and a $200 pair of monitors. I've been able to get some pretty clean recordings out of my equipment, but it took me a great deal of time and trial-and-error to learn how to use everything correctly. Get a quality microphone and start fiddling around with recording styles/microphone placement. Youtube has a wealth of knowledge and videos on how to pretty much do anything in a home studio, including how to get started on setting it up. There are plenty of cost efficient DAWs out there, so I think choosing the right fit for your project is also important. There's also a lot of members here (Gocartmoz for one) who got excellent recordings by using 8 or 16-track digital recorders. For the most part, they are cost efficient and you can get your feet wet with recording/mixing. -Michael
  9. David: Man, I can't say enough how great those ideas were. I tried to make this one seem more real and show the song in the process of being written. Thanks for taking the time to watch and help out, brother. I really needed help on it.
  10. Hey, thank you both very much for watching. I'm still making changes to this to hopefully make it better
  11. Update: I took David's advice (*except for the strip club portion) and changed up the video. I think this one turned out great, but who knows? Thanks a lot to everyone, especially David for the ideas on this. Making videos is not fun…. Hello everyone, I wasn't really sure where to post this, as the video is still a work in progress. This is my first time making a video, and this is just a rough sketch of what I think the video could look like. The footage is all royalty-free stock video, except for the shots of me playing and singing. -Michael
  12. That's one of my favorite docs. I always liked Grohl, but that film really shows how much he cares about music. I can't remember the name of the doc, but there was a recent one about The Eagles that was incredible (about 2.5 hours long too) I also really love "Don't Look Back". It's a documentary of Bob Dylan when he was in tour in the late 60s. Very cool stuff.
  13. It is a great feeling to create something out of nothing, that's 100% yours. When you get it right, its amazing. Hard to beat. It can also be the single most frustrating thing...having an idea in your head and trying to get it out just the right way, but never getting it quite right. For the most part, this is usually where I find myself
  14. I have the same process as David and John. I never put any Effects on vocal/guitar when I'm recording them. Then i add any necessary FX to get them to sit right in the mix after theyve been recorded.I have a few songs where I don't use compression at all on a guitar just because I want to have it sound more dynamic in the mix....but usually I compress it in the DAW after its been recorded.
  15. Heading to L.A to find Lana Del Ray

  16. Thanks a lot, Randy! Gry! Thanks so much for the very kind words! We need to do a song together soon
  17. I'll be sure to do that, man. Most of my family lives in Nashville so I'm there a good bit. Thanks alot, Scotsman!
  18. Hey John. Thanks a lot. I'm releasing it on March 25th. I've got most of my promo stuff together...hopefully ;-) Ha! That's too cool, Layne. I saw your write-up on there today.
  19. Thanks man! Hopefully there will be more to follow David, thanks a lot bro. That is the plan....get out and play for anyone and everyone. Maybe I can twist your arm and get you to come play some shows with me :-)
  20. http://spheremusic.me/2014/03/05/michael-stovall-uncovers-the-souls-undertow-in-georgia/ This is a pretty cool blog of my album thats coming out later this month. Just thought I would share for anyone thats interested :-)
  21. It would be tough to figure it out without hearing it, but it could have something to do with the keyboard sounds frequencies....it could be sitting in the same frequency as some other instruments, so it's difficult for it to stand out on its own. That's the first place I would take a look. If you can pull up a frequency analyzer that will help you narrow it down a bit. Hope it helps
