  1. Inching up to that 400 landmark.  What comes after legendary? ... Old has been?

One more to help you unravel the mystery. :)

Dek is at 482 and he is still just a legend.  It looks like I will remain legendary for at least another 100 likes before I achieve "old has been" status.

  2. These are what I use Dek. I can't say I have had alot of others to compare, however, but they seem to do the job. ... Sony MDR 7506 http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/MDR7506?adpos=1o1&creative=55678058761&device=c&matchtype=&network=g&gclid=CLvCt4XTis8CFUw6gQodXw8DuQ
  3. Hey Rob, I have to admit to despising the original version of this tune by Twisted Sister. That being said, I love this version. How could anyone not be moved by this performance and video? Very powerful. Dave
  4. Was a Zevon fan even before Werewolves of London. Loved Mohammed's Radio and pretty much everything thereafter. The guy was a genius. Plus, anyone when asked, after being stricken with cancer about life's lessons, who can come up with "Enjoy every sandwich" is tops with me.
  5. If you havn't ever heard this guy's tunes, you should Beer Run/Todd Snider
  6. As everyone is likely to have different views on what makes music "good," though some views might be similar, it has to be subjective. It is a "beauty is in the eyes of the beholder" kind of thing. That being said, there are certain objective things that influence subjective opinions on whether a piece of music is good, such as: 1. Melody - is it catchy 2. Prosody 3. Skill and tightness of the performance 4. Quality of the lyrics 5. Quality of the recording (I am not a believer in the opinion that a good song trumps recording and production quality - I think they are almost equally important). When I used to play a new song with a single track guitar and vocal into my cheap old cassette recorder, on playback I would think it was the worst piece of crap I ever heard. However, when the same song is performed with a decent recording, it becomes the second worst thing I ever heard. 6. Dynamics (often overlooked, in my opinion, with respect to a "good" piece of music) Basically, what makes music "good" is subective, but there are objective elements that influence that subjective opinion. That is my opinion at least. Dave
  7. Wiped away the cobwebs and found this tune I wrote in college while at Penn State University. I think it was '83, but could have been '84. Recorded it in the party room of my fraternity house, with a frat brother of mine. We both played rhythm guitar and I picked a pretty horrible lead break on acoustic. I sang lead and my buddy sang back-up. He was and I am sure still is a much better singer than I. He actually should have sang lead on it, but we decided when we recorded about 6 or 7 of our tunes, he would sing his originals and I would sing mine. I think this was his favorite of mine. I somewhat cringe listening to it now. I am trying to remember how we recorded it and I think we went direct into a single track cassette deck. I don't recall it being multi-tracked. It actually isn't a bad recording considering the gear. The acoustics were great in that room though. I think all the beer soaked walls and floors helped. Actually I think my buddy applied some magic to the recording years later and cleaned it up a bit, which I am certain is how this recording sounds even 1/2 as good as it does today (and I mean the quality of the recording, not the song ). Recording quality credit goes to him. Crappy songwriting credit goes to me. It is private on SC ...
  8. What a great idea for a thread. I think I suggested something like this previously. I may have to dust off those old cassettes and reel to reels. Enjoying the listens.
  9. Lobo/Me and You and a Dog Named Boo Yup I used to listen to AM radio in my very younger days
  10. Rock 'N Roll Fantasy Camp 2010 - Philadelphia, PA. Was supposed to jam with Dickie Betts. Learned the Blue Sky solo (all 100 minutes of it:) ). Well Dickie was sitting there while the rest of my camp band were rehearsing for the final camp show at the Trocadero, but was apparently to stoned/drunk/you name it to get up out his chair and jam. Instead he brought his son to jam with us. When I mentioned to Dickie that we lived in the same part of Florida, he looked up at me and said ... "ugggghhhh." A dream come true!! Less of a memorable music moment, as it was so long ago, but still a cool musical memory. I grew up in New Jersey. I played in a high school band, which lasted about 3 weeks. Anyway, we were playing at a party at some kids house I didn't know, where a much better local band was playing after us called John Eddie and The Front Street Runners. John Eddie's amp blew out and actually borrowed my amp for the show. This must have been around 1978 or so if memory is correct. John Eddie went on to have a semi hit tune and video called Jungle Boy, that had its rounds on MTV. He also opened up Live Aid in Philly if memory serves. He was going to be huge, but it never quite happened for him. He still is a bigtime bar circuit guy performing all around Jersey and other states. He actually has put out some really good albums. Check him out on You Tube. Of course probably my favorite musical memory is front row to see Springsteen. I don't think I will ever beat that one. Dave
  11. Birds/Neil Young One of my favorite Neil Young songs and his most beautiful song imho
  12. Hanson/Mmmbop ... These guys take alot of crap ... but they are very talented
  13. I predict that by 2020 vinyl will once again be the preferred form of music listening. I predict by 2030 Miley Cyrus will have 3 gold records I predict in 2035 Keith Richards will still be alive I predict by 2040 there will be no more internet I predict by 2040 all of my above stated predictions will be proven wrong (I have to get something right)
