  2. Welcome from Portsmouth UK Charlie.
  3. I couldnt find the 'play' button in there! Managed to see other animations on that site though, so not sure what is wrong. If this it what I think it is, I saw one used by a fellow accompanying John Martyn once. John described it as a plank, and the player a 'planker' at the time.
  4. Hello May, I voted, like-em-with-no favourite. Fire & Rains good. I could mention 'Need your Love So Bad' as a favourite to play. Another might be 'Darlin' (Beach Boys) - yes really! Welcome to SS
  5. Hey Elizabeth, nice to hear from you. Welcome from Portsmouth UK.

    Dream Stone

I have no idea why I wrote this. I found it in my 'draft folder'. Evidently I intended to rewrite, but forgot about it. Dream Stone We arrived at the dining hall in a Land Rover We were armed. I don’t know why It wasn’t even Land Rover season Leaned the shotgun against the dessert trolley at a jaunty angle Hung my homburg on the hat stand, my overcoat on the coat stand, My umbrella on the umbrella stand One table was unreserved, and we sat down unreservedly. Unswervingly The carrots were gassy, the beans stringy, the potatoes stared unblinking. The meat was pheasant. It was unpleasant, loaded with shot, but it was game. The décor was neo-gothic There were 278 skeletons, and all of them were Acker Bilk The table faced into a corner, so we could not stare at the feast The waiter looked unwell, unkempt & unaware of us at least The waiter was me in 15 years time, serving the public Later to cater for their nutrition I wished id brought more ammunition I awoke when I couldn’t take anymore, Another washed up stranger upon the shore. 7. I dont know if it poetry either Amanda, but it works like poetry, so who cares? Hey, I see me in there.
  8. Well, still struggling with bowing, but working on it. Changed strings yesterday and find it MUCH EASIER now. Had a dead D string that was whistling like a train, but now the E is a little too bright, -oh well! Playing mostly in G and able to find tunes very easily, as with guitar pretty much. Got a new bow on Friday. Link here: http://www.danceofdelight.co.uk/catalog/pr...?products_id=84 Hows yours going?
  9. I read this to the (unbidden) tune of 'Sailing'. Had to overcome that and re-read twice. It worked, I have lost my early morning cheer totally. It doesnt sound much like dieing from an illness, but dieing as a consequence of something avoidable.
  10. Ear only. In fact Im not even thinking of notes at all, just the sound of the notes. I will do as you say re- bowing. I cant believe Ive had it this long & still played no blues.
  11. Yes. It came out of the packaging bridge up and in perfect tuning! It's LOUD too. Practice:- Weaknesses: Bow work. Those string crossings are a challenge. Still producing whistling harmonics. Strengths: I am able to find tunes fairly easily. 'Ode To Joy' occurred last night with no preparation or mistakes.

    Democracy

Marc, I get the impression that this wrote itself, and that you were compelled to oblige.
  15. I dont know. I never entered one. If I did I would not take it too seriously, as competitiveness is a 2nd rate sort of incentive to create music. I would quite enjoy having a go, but have next to no idea about how to use a computer properly. A bit of a problem when it comes to recording, file converting, web-site building, linking etc. I am only really interested in playing TBH.
  16. I started making up bits of music as soon as I got an instrument to make it on. Having no tuition or knowledge, making stuff up was all I could do anyway. I had wanted to play since I was 8, but had to wait until I was 16 and buy my own guitar, because my father was a mean git. An early recording I made (at Art College) I called “The Sea” or “The Shore” or something, and was supposed to sound like waves lapping at the shore. The Em chord was ‘the ebb’, and the E chord was ‘the flow’. I used quiet strums that grew louder for the ‘flow’. The crescendo occurred as the wave broke upon the shore. Then I changed to Em to which decrescendo was applied as the water receded. I then tried to improvise over this with overdubbing. I didn’t get interested in conventional songs until I had to, ie:- began to join & jam with other players. I have no idea what my 1st song was like or what it was called. It was almost certainly embarrassingly derivative or pretentious (I was no small thinker as a lad). All my music & lyrics have become humbler & less grandiose as the years have worn me away. I will probably return to an acoustic version of “The Shore” on my deathbed and peg out with a whimper.
  17. Hi Dave, There are some good lyric writters among the puny humans here. Some may advise on your own efforts and some may be easily duped into having thier brains extracted picked for experimentation collaberative songwritting. Beware of the one called 'Steve'.
  18. I never knew those things had jet thrusters on them. -May have to get one now. Due to strings/pegs not holding concert tuning, had been playing 1.5 tones low (EBF#C#). Practice for 1st two days was:- E scales (in lieu of G) B scale (in lieu of D) A mixolydian mode (in lieu of C). Played ‘Groovy Kid Of Love’ because it resembles playing a major scale. (The tuning issue has been aired elsewhere (no I cant remember, & too lazy to look) Now have replaced strings & added fine tuners, and managed to raise tuning to FCGD. Have been doing some bowing exercises and have been playing tunes ‘Danny Boy’ and ‘Jolly Beggar Man’, both in F (in lieu of G). Enjoying it more than I had even expected. Ready to add another tune I think, in a minor key probably.

    Capo up again

I havent tried one, but notice there are some Capos out there on which you can vary the tension. That seems a good idea, & would solve this sort of problem.
  20. Hi Falken, Yes just a few details for our files y'know Welcome to the SS !

    Capo up again

My old faithful elasticated one fell apart years ago. When the duo project was up & running, I looked in the local music shop, but all those Capos seemed poor. I did buy one; but lost it a fortnight later. Then Pete (the duo's singer) made one for me out of an assembly clamp. It looks weird with this handle sticking upwards, but it works a treat! I have now bought another elastic one (cheap ebay). Then I found the one I lost again. I think I'll just stick with Pete's clamp.
