  1. I dont think its possible to really cheat at music, but I like to think of it that way. With my new duo venture, I need a capo. My old `bungee' one has unraveled itself with the shame of 20 years of cheating. I bought a wierd new lever type one a few weeks ago. It works but its nasty. I dont like it. How about pitch changing & transposition on keyboards? Much more cheaty than a capo. Everyone can see a capo!
  2. Oddly, this has planted the germ of an idea for a new song lyric! Thanks Kate! (whoever you are).
  3. Got a 'for instance' example?

    How often?

I only change strings when they 'dull-up'. This is about every 4 months on the Jackson. I used to change strings on the accoustic every week in my early days. However, this was when I was into exotic tunings & used to alter tunings a couple of times a day. That will wear strings extreemly rapidly. The Jackson has the locking nut at the headstock, so tuning (small adjustment within concert tuning) is rare. This goes a long way to explaining the longevity I think.
  5. Yes. How much 'professional new music' have you heard in the last 10 years?

    Ideal instrument

An upright bass fiddle. Because they sound good. you can bow them and you have to get more physical with it than with guitars & stuff.
  7. I agree with John re rhymes potential, but it works pdg anyway. Nice one.
  8. No. I will say that Norton failed me a couple of years ago, and didnt see a virus. Dont want to worry you but thought I should mention it.
  9. Hi Kate. Over all its pretty chilling stuff. The 'it' grows into a creepy form. Id like to have heard to heard the 'it' developed further.

    BOSS GT-8

Boss / Rowland sent me another mag recently. They have brought out another GT (guitar) signal processor, the GT-8. I still use the original GT-5 (so does Steve). This was superseded by the GT-6, which I was interested in because it had a nylon string patch, though I never tried it out. They have bypassed a GT-7 model completely and opted for the GT-8 moniker. (Why they didn’t start with a GT-1 and count upwards I don’t know, -probably some marketing nonsense) It looks much like the other units, except that its black with white lettering, which is better for reading it in the dark apparently. Anyway this is the blurb from Rowland: Boss GT8 Guitar Multi-Effects Processor - 4 types to choose from! Double your power with BOSS’s new GT-8 floor-based mega processor. Loaded with twin COSM modeling engines, it brings unprecedented performance and tonal control to the stage and studio. The Dual COSM amp section provides two discrete amp channels; you can layer and manipulate each engine independently to create wildly expressive sounds. Thanks to the Solo Switch function, lead sounds can be immediately activated -- perfect for ripping through the mix. BOSS’s mega-popular GT-6 was a smash hit with guitarists, now the GT-8 is destined to become the go-to box for gigging and recording guitarists alike.
  12. I have used PCs for far too long, and despised them with a passion. I have always felt like like a victim, not a user. My PC was custom built for music. Ive never produced anything with it that didnt have major problems. Stereo failure, hiss, distortion, synching etc. etc. Result, no music at all. A waste of effort and money. I freely admit I dont have the patience to put myself through whatever it takes to iron these problems out. Its as much as I can do to spend half of my time at the damned thing hunting spyware, viruses; stopping pop-ups and trying to get cooperation from 3rd party developers & pratting around with the registry. But I was spoilt to start with. I used to use an Amiga. I still had to deal with the odd problem, but I had CONTROL. The way I see it, I cant fare any worse with a Mac. Books: I'll take a look around the library 1st I think.
  13. Ah a sensible reply at last! Hi Kurty, I will be getting a G5 within the next month. Glad to hear your endorsement. Are the manuals good? If not, can you recommend any books?

    thank you

That last verse makes it real. More personal.
  15. Coz I am getting one, and know nothing...
  16. Like the song John (remember the song?!) It was just exactly what I was trying to tell someone a short while ago.

  19. - Equatorial Plugholes - Water in the northern hemisphere, goes down the plughole clockwise It works the same way with beer and antifreeze, but not in the antipodes There its anticlockwise, so baby aussies heads get anti-baptised Like gurgling corkscrews those helix go, In Bourdeaux, Oslo and Felixstowe But not so, in Borneo, where there’s a reverse spiral flow. Is there a part of the world, where water isn’t swirled, As it goes down the sink? well I think, just maybe at the equator I don’t know for sure, but will find out sooner or later. And who lives there anyway? a few macaws and the odd alligator Ill have to have a look myself, I owe it to mankind, My family understands and do endorse, unless of course, I try to leave them behind 19-July-2005
  20. Yes. Heartfelts the word. Cant be bested.
  21. 4 years ago I think. To record the bands 4 track demo that we could hawk about for gigs. I'm not sure how many copies we have left now.
  22. My experience is that rapid re-tune/tention wears the hell out of a set of strings fast. I would be worried about breaking strings every gig.
