I've read many times that a lyricist or songwriter should not mix up 1st and 3rd person etc. If you begin with one, stick with it. Why? What "set in stone" rule stops you from being able to include "all" sides? Why restrict expression? If I have a good lyric where "general" statements are involved that apply to I/me, he/she and you/you or they, to help make the reader/listener associate more easily with them I want to use the you etc (as in singular and/or plural) but then in the other lines, verses or chorus I want to say how "I" personally feel and so use I/me. Quick example: Don't you ever feel down and out Don't you ever feel You want to scream and shout At all the things you see All the hurt they cause I know if left to me I'd tie them to a runaway horse. Or is this all in my imagination? Do you think it's ok to mix them up? Answers on a postcard please And please, give examples for and against. -

Quite a few have said the same Grant so welcome aboard. You've got it all here - just take the time to slowly search the site (made by songwriters and musicians for songwriters and musicians) as this place has so much it's like walking into a candy store. Get involved with the community and make friends too. Enjoy yourself ps - I see you've not completed your profile and about me yet. When you've time I suggest you do in full and then check back in a few days - you'll go "wow" at just how many people have visited. It's one of the ways (an important one) to let people get to know you quickly.

I'm so glad you found us in your hour of need There's so much help just for you here, so take some time to search through the site for topics, posts, blogs, written lyrics that have been critiqued etc. Why would you want to read other peoples lyrics you may ask? Go look and you'll find the answer Help is often staring back at us Enjoy being here and get involved in the community - another way to get a lot of help through making friends. And don't forget please, critique at least one members song before posting your own lyrics (preferably 2 or 3 - it helps you, believe it or not!!). Thanks

Hi Black and welcome. All that John says as above is true but as I read your post, you are building your own personal homepage website to only add and promote your songs. If I am correct and that is all you will do with this site, then yes you can add your link. There's a lot of helpful advice on promoting and promotion here as well as a lot of experienced people to ask for help.
