Challenge #16 What's The Gist Lyricist?

Recommended Posts

Why Kel, I'm Blushing!!!  Thank you for the encouragement and nice compliment, truly sir you are a Southern Australian gentleman. I do declare. I'm glad you thought it was easy to listen to, because it was recorded on my computer sound recorder, not audacity, which removes all the noise, but I have no clue how to use it to make a wave that's transferrable to Sound Cloud. I guess everything is a learning process. I will look into chord lite, but I have windows 8, I don't know if it'll work. By the way, I like your last lyric you wrote Big Fat Lie a lot.

Here's my effort. :)

(Goldy, well done on the vocals. :luxhello: Singing a cappella takes courage - it's like standing naked in a bar.  :001_cool: )

Donna

Hard As Diamonds

V1

Girl, you smiled and promised

You’d be with me all the way

And I leaned down to kiss you

Thinking there’s still time to play

V2

Girl, I knew your bound’ries

Glad of just how much you cared

But went ahead and pushed them

Risking everything we’d shared

Pre-chorus

When you left I couldn’t blame you

Knew I’d hurt and shamed you

Chorus

Hard as diamonds were the words

You threw at my illusion

They cut through the delusion

I’d had about myself and love

Hard as diamonds

Making my stupidity crystal clear

V3

Girl, I can’t help hoping

One day you’ll return my calls

Until you do I’ll wait here

Like a ghost within these walls

Pre-chorus

When you left I couldn’t blame you

Knew I’d hurt and shamed you

Chorus

Hard as diamonds were the words

You threw at my illusion

They cut through the delusion

I’d had about myself and love

Hard as diamonds

Making my stupidity crystal clear

Bridge

You left your favourite book behind

Might that mean something more?

Now I sit and watch the door

Chorus

Hard as diamonds were the words

You threw at my illusion

They cut through the delusion

I’d had about myself and love

Hard as diamonds

Making my stupidity crystal clear

Thanks Donna, for the nice comment on my vocals. I love your title and your lyrics, especially how you use Hard as Diamonds in the chorus. Quite original!

Hi Goldy,

Audacity exports in .wav form which is basically the same as a track on a CD.

Export in Audacity, creates song.wav

Convert to .mp3 using Switch Sound File Converter

Upload song.mp3 to Soundcloud... easy

Links to ChordPulse Lite and Switch below.

It's easy, even I can do it!

Kel, thanks for the information, I tried audacity, and the recording with noise removal, didn't turn out as clear as Window 8's recorder, but I appreciate the links, for use in the future. I just record and Sound Cloud converted my file to a streaming song.

you know you have to take a noise sample don't you?

Select a section of the file with no singing on it, select it and click on the Sample Noise button. Then you select the entire track and go into the effect again and click on OK

Apologies if you already do this...

Kel, I did try to that, but the sound wasn't as clear as the one I got from Windows 8 recorder. It still had static, I'm not very computer literate, but I appreciate all your advice.

no idea... I doubt a vst plugin could do that sort of manipulation.

Whose Lyrics You Are Assigned To Critique

Kel - Donna, Goldy

Donna - Rudi, Lisa

Rudi - Jan, Kel

Jan - Vagda, Donna

Vagda - Goldy, Rudi

Goldy - Lisa, Jan

Lisa - Kel, Vagda

I will split each entered Lyric off Into It's own topic to allow the discussion of each set of lyrics yo flow more freely. Please keep to the lyrics you are assigned until Friday as this will allow assessment to be more easily carried out.

This is not a sure thing or guaranteed pass. That said it is a challenge I think you are all more than capable of doing well at. In case you need and want to take it again this will not be the last time level 1 will be assessed and levels 2 & 3 will be coming soon. Feedback will be available should you so wish it.

There are two aims:

By discussion evolve your own lyrics from draft to completed

By discussion help those whose lyrics you have been assigned evolve their lyrics from draft to completed.

Start the ball rolling by critiquing the work of the writers you have been assigned.

Please don't hang back or be shy.

Observe

Analyse

Suggest

Discuss

Tips:

Highlight what works and what doesn't work

Explore "why"

Your job as a critiquer is not to persuade the writer to do what you want or to do what you would do, it is to make sure that the writer has all the available information to hand to make informed choices, understanding available options and the trade offs between them

Is it just me or have Goldy's lyrics just disappeared?

The following is a Kelism....:

Found it, stop looking!

Les, if you hadn't asked the question, I would never have thought to look.

See, it isn't knowing the answer that is important in life, it's knowing the questions to ask!

Oh boy, I just claim that as a Kelism. It's mine!

Mine!

All mine!

Has each lyric been split into its own topic yet, John? I can't find the two that I'm meant to critique.

(Unless I'm missing something, which is always a possibility. ;) )

I have no idea what you just said!!!!!! or should I say meant?

Les

And that, my friend, is the perfect example of a Kelism.

A line, a phrase an idea that is so brilliant it cannot be immediately grasped. Later, as you mull it over, the realisation will hit you like an iron feather... "That's what he meant!"

what does it mean when I start understanding Kelisms upon reading them?

I GET IT! I GOT IT! YEEEE HAAAA

John,

I have started my critiques, but was puzzled that Kel was critiquing Donna.

this is what you wrote:

Kel - Donna, Goldy
Donna - Rudi, Lisa
Rudi - Jan, Kel
Jan - Vagda, Donna
Vagda - Goldy, Rudi
Goldy - Lisa, Jan
Lisa - Kel, Vagda

Now the way I interpret this is as follows:

Kel is critiqued by Donna & Goldy

Donna is critiqued by Rudi & Lisa

Jan is critiqued by Vagda & Donna

etc etc

Now is this right? Because there appears to be some confusion, which is very inconvenient for all concerned.

Link to comment

Rudi, I've critiqued Lisa and you.

And according to my interpretation, I was to be critiqued by Kel and Jan (which has happened).

As I understand it,  the first person named in the list (e.g. Kel, Donna, Jan, Vagda, Goldy, Lisa) critiques the two people listed after the hyphen.

I did wonder why you had critiqued my lyric. ;) (Glad you did, though.)

But I agree, it is a little confusing.
